Re: Predictions for 10/11 season

The argument that there are far more shit teams in the premier league than us worked like a dream last season, and I hadn't believed it. Actually though, we played some good stuff a few times too, no? It won't be Mark Hughes stuff, but BFS got Notlob near the top a few times and probably knows what ...

Re: winter break and fa cup

Everyone's got ideas on what needs to improve. However, I'll remain unconvinced about winter breaks until someone explains how they will help our goalkeepers to suddenly become good enough to play at CL level, our manager to pick players in positions and systems that they are familiar with at club ...

I don't think we'd be allowed to do that unilaterally.

Well, yes. But then you'd need UEFA to change the competitions back to the old format (which I'd much prefer in truth). But, yes, why not? It would also add back to the importance of domestic cups.

Re: winter break and fa cup

Personally, I don't see how a winter break helps players be ready for a summer tournament. well, my feeling is the reduction in fixtures offered by ending replays in the FA Cup is nothing, and therefore this is not a substantive change. I think a season as short as Germany's can help, but I know so...

winter break and fa cup

Well, read this and see what you make of it...

I'm struck by the long list of mutual assurances each side wants before anything might happen. Suggests a degree of mistrust that borders on paranoia, though in this case, the paranoia is understandable....

Re: Hosepipe ban!

They have invested a lot in infrastructure since 2006 though... However, I actually agree with the water people at the bottom of that; I don't think the cost it would take to build a national water network would actually be worth it. Encouraging responsible use is much better. Absolutely right. The...

Re: Hosepipe ban!

Seriously though, what was needed in the UK was a long range network allowing water to be moved around the country more easily. I don't think that's ever been completed. There must be enough water available overall. But it can't be moved to the places that need it. I'm not sure that's right, either...

Must have been a fiendishly clever ploy to ease their progression through the tournament. Never underestimate the Spanish ;)

Re: Hosepipe ban!

The UK has a very poor distribution network that leaks a lot. We did several years ago. I think a lot of work has been done to improve it though. We have just had three wet summers, so maybe it's difficult to tell. But this year has been exceptionally dry - my mate works in the building trade and h...

Buyer beware. For many seasons in the Bundesliga, he not only looked, but actually was, quite, quite dreadful. Picked up a bit with Dortmund recently, but likely to revert to type in the none too distant...

what! You mean there are no suitable barn conversions available? Or is the supply of barbecued meat insufficient?

Re: Hosepipe ban!

Not sure how we are managing here. We had 10 minutes of thundery rain today, but otherwise it has been 2 weeks of temperatures constantly above 30C (we reached 37C once and will likely do so again tomorrow). The whole of next week is currently forecast hot, sunny and dry. Forest fires are increasing...

Re: Strikers: Who do you think Rovers will buy?

Colin Benjamin. Nelson Valdez? Arsenalitis with a Bundesliga topping (that's really, really bad incidentally).... But seriously, couldn't we get Forlan somehow? Wouldn't he be sold on the Ribble Valley? Surely? A classy barn conversion with a decent view, and a nearby pub with endless barbe...
