Am I the only one who feels physically sick when I see Josh King ripping up premiership defences. Yes, I know he has started this season a bit less prolifically, but he's up-and-running now with a cracking goal. Why was he sitting on our bench for so long? Are we to believe he just suddenly turned into a top-level striker!?
Maybe you don't remember how awful he was when he came off the bench. He had one good game for us ever
Also obviously forgotten the the two twenty goals-a-season strikers that were keeping him out the side.

Indeed, which of Gestede and Rhodes do you drop when they are scoring every week in favour of a bloke who constantly loses the ball and can't hit the target?

This is again just one of those things that is very much time and place. King always had the potential that he's now showing and showed last season, I think he was a little raw when he was with us, was always played out wide unlike where Howe uses him and was playing third fiddle to both Rhodes and Gestede.

Rhodes is having a terrible time of things at Sheffield Wednesday but that doesn't alter that fact that he was unbelievably good for both Huddersfield and us.

Likewise with Gestede, we were fortunate to have him in the best form of his career to date.

Totally agree with all these comments. Just frustrating I guess. I remember feeling equally annoyed when we had to sell Shay Given because he was too good to be a benchwarmer - even to Friedel. I still think they were the best 2 keepers in England at the time.

Given left years before we got Friedel...

Yes but he was too good a benchwarmer. That's why we asked him round every now and again. The warmth from him sitting on the bench lasted for weeks, I tell you.

Wasn’t it Flowers keeping Given out of the team?

It was Given's amazingly warm bum keeping him out the team. A tactical decision was made to ensure that warm up time for all other subs was reduced by having him there warming away.

Yes, it would have been, I think Given left a year or two after we won the Premiership.
Can't really blame him, there's only so much waiting around a good keeper can do before they move on, their chances of regular football are far smaller than in any other position if they are the one not getting first team action.

If I remember rightly, it was Friedel who effortlessly displaced Filan who’d in turn won the gloves off Kelly.

Hmm... My memory is a bit vague, but in my head Filan was 2nd choice to Flowers for a while after Given had gone, then became number 1 when Flowers left and we had Kelly on the bench. Friedel arrived, Filan was benched and left, Kelly left soon after and then Enckelman arrived.

Your memory is substantially less vague than mine by the sound of it! You're right - it was Flowers keeping Given out rather than Friedel. Either way, they were both legends - and both start with F :D

See...I have it in my head that Filan lost the gloves to Fettis through injury, then they brought Kelly in, who Filan won his place back off eventually. I’ll have to check. :-/

You're probably right.... I was only 11 or 12 when we signed Kelly :D
