Venky's out now

Post by AngryRover » Sat Aug 13, 2016 4:24 pm

Have at it lads. I'm sick of this Venky's chicken cancer factory. Time to leave our club, if you haven't buried us already.

Us griping about it here won't help, I'm afraid.

I don't mean to sound harsh, I just think we're all equally frustrated & upset.

Its a long season; undortunately, I don't expect it to get much better. The takent is thin, & I think the mgr would have trouble winning, even with a fit, full, & talented squad.

I'm no prophet, though. We'll see.

I am just as angry as your name AngryRover! we have been taken over by a billions firm they thought that there was no relegation so what did they do sell off all the players that where worth millions(asset stripping). Our beloved club has been taken to the cleaners and before the(I love Venky brigade} begin to say without Venkys!! I think apart from turning us into the laughing stock of Lancashire we have reached depths that would be not even thought of 5/6 years ago. Where we go from here I really dont know,I am so dissapointed and feel let down with the whole circus and chicken brigade that I feel do I need this crap week in week out!

Indeed. The concept of someone asset stripping a club they've subsided with millions is hilarious.

Right there with you Star me old mate. Too sad to contribute chirpy memories of the good old days. Even the bad old days (the 1970's) didn't seem this hopeless. In the darkest days we had players who weren't great but at least looked like they wanted to play for the club.

As the business management experts might say, Rovers have a culture problem first and foremost. We always had a pride even when we were crap, now I think we've lost that in the players and it can only come from some serious changes at the top, which of course is not going to happen. A business gets the culture the managers or owners generate or tolerate. Sad sad, but on the good side, I am glad to see you back again on this board my friend!!

Suppin longer nowadays!!

Duggy

Duggy,
I always love hearing from you. I love your stories, reminisces, etc, & your love for Blackburn Rovers!

Things aren't great, but thats when we need to be reminded of the past. You contribute well in that regard, my friend. Keep it up...we need to keep those memories alive!

realistically now, the only way the owners are going to get anywhere near getting their money back would be if the club were to get promoted, if they were to sell on now, it would be an exercise in cutting your losses

even in our current financal state, there has to be significant investment in playing staff if we expect to be competitive in the championship. i hate to say it but we're looking poor so far and we could very well be in serious danger come May of next year if we dont strengthen the squad quite a bit

having the club in your pocket as a status symbol is one thing, but trying to run a club well without spending a lot of money is a tough thing to do, it takes a lot of footballing knowledge and patience

attendances and revenue will only go down if we do go down, or even if we continue to be a bottom half championship club

i won't say i agree with "venkys out" but its a very important time for the club and its a time where the owners HAVE to get it right, if we're still struggling when the transfer window closes, we could be in a lot of trouble

Quite literally: bankrupt.

I'm not for a moment suggesting they've done the best job in the world, on the whole they've made a hash of things. But to suggest they're asset stripping is just hilarious.

Ok check all the transfers since Venkys took over and what they have paid on incoming transfers you will find a whopping difference, weve gone from an established PL team to the brink of div1 or the old third division, :banghead: still we can have plenty of local derbies against Accy or PNE so its not all doom or gloom.

Try comparing the same for later years under Jack Walker and under the Walker Trust. You'll see that we made sold players to a higher value than what we spent then, too. Were they asset stripping? We've pretty much always been a selling club, with a slight blip during the formation of the Premier League.

For example:-

Venkys - net £35.15

16/17 - Sum players sold £5.61m, Sum players bought (£0) = net £5.61m
15/16 - Sum players sold £21.74m, Sum players bought (under a transfer embargo) £0 = net £21.74m
14/15 - Sum players sold £0, Sum players bought - £2.57m = net -£2.57m
13/14 - Sum players sold £14.62m, Sum players bought - £1.93m = net - £2.69m
12/13 - Sum players sold £9.69m, Sum players bought - £14.69m = net - -5m
11/12 - Sum players sold £32.21m, Sum players bought - £17.49m = net £16.74m
10/11 - Sum players sold £234k, Sum players bought - £4.29m = net -£4.06m

Walker Trust - net £35.25

09/10 - Sum players sold - £31.15m, Sum players bought - £11.29m = net £19.86m
08/09 - Sum players sold - £22.53m, Sum players bought - £12.6m = net £12.6m
07/08 - Sum players sold - £3.38m, Sum players bought - £5.27m = net -£1.89m
06/07 - Sum players sold - £14.37m, Sum players bought - £14.05m = net £327k
05/06 - Sum players sold - £2.3m, Sum players bought - £7.99m = net -£5.7m
04/05 - Sum players sold - £6.55m, Sum players bought - £6.69m = net -£149k
03/04 - Sum players sold - £29.2m, Sum players bought - £18.99m = net £10.21m

The last seven years of the Walker Trust versus Venkys in terms of transfer market dealings. Resulting in exactly the same net amount. Given that player prices have increased significantly over that period, the £35 million that the Walker Trust were making in the mid 2000s would get you a lot better quality player than now.

Yep. We've maintained the same practices, just with a greater failure rate.

Some further examples of "asset stripping" under Jack Walker:-

99/00 - Total sales = £23.99m, total purchases = £10.82m. Net £13.17
98/99 - Total Sales = £13.64m, total purchases = £42.83m. Net -£29.19m
97/98 - Total sales = £23.65m, total purchases = £8.61m. Net £15.05m
96/97 - Total sales = £18.63m, total purchases = £0. Net £18.63m
