Yeah and our designated penalty taker is Graham and if he isn't on the pitch it's then Conway. Between them I'm sure we've converted them all this season?

I was a little worried if either Emnes or Joao had picked the ball up, but Conway walked straight over to get the ball 8-)

What if the penalty is given because an opposing defender punches his own goalkeeper? Or for a less unlikely scenario, a defender deliberately hand balls to stop an own goal?
What we need is an extra 500 rules to deal with who takes a penalty in any given situation (including acts of god of course) :D

It would only encourage people to work out how to circumvent them without reading them...

What if the penalty is given because the ref suddenly realises that the opposition keeper is really a shark in a man suit? What then? :yeahright:

I think that would invoke the Scissors Paper Stone clause.

(Sharks are notoriously bad at that, they always go for paper)

I don't know why, but I would have guessed they went for scissors. Clever sharks.

I'd have thought rock was a more natural choice for them. But then again, that's what they want you to think.

Just to backtrack slightly... In basketball the player could always takes the penalty and I've never found it odd. I'm all for it... Other than in the premiership where it would ruin my fantasy football team.

So what exactly are you going to do when there is a handball after a mishit clearance by a defender? Seems like pointless complication for no reason.

Clear case of accidental handball. ;)

Where there isn't an obvious candidate - just revert to whoever. Seems fairly straightforward.

Not if he punched it off the line... who is whoever? Here is a better question - why bother?

Not that I've ever watched much without getting bored within seconds, but I was under the impression there was a lack of two-footed leg-breaking tackles in basketball?
On the other side of the coin, American Football teams have designated kickers who don't even participate for the rest of the game.

It's simply not part of the game, nor ever has been. End of. Thanks. Move along. These are not the freekick/penalty takers you're looking for.

The kicker in American Football doesn't take freekicks after penalties though.
