All,

Big recognition to Stillgrowling who beats me for length of Rovers suffering, wow! I remember a few of that 1950's forward line but only vaguely, the next decade was my favourite.

Thanks for your patience with us old farts! I wasn't suggesting we don't give the youngsters a chance, I am all for that, especially after what the U23s just did. I was talking about the journeymen who are good at this level and can still make more money than you and me put together with another League 1 club but I don't want next year to be more anguish and negativity - been there too often! Let's have good football first with no nail biting this time next year.

Also cheeering for Scousers tonight, I always had a soft spot for Merseyside teams (having lived in Manchester!!)

I have the same down in Nottingham
"You watching Forest at the weekend?"
-No, not a Forest fan
"Oh ok, Notts County then? I suppose someone has to!"
-Nope, not a Notts fan either
(confused look)... "Not much of a fan then? Can't blame you, I'm losing interest these days too, it's not like it used to be"
-Yeah, Blackburn
"Blackburn? Rovers?" That's different... you must be from Blackburn then"
-No actually, but not too far away.
"What League are they in these days?"... "I remember them from winning the title"

I don't mind it, but there's an elderly chap I know that I've had that conversation with at least 5 times :D

It's quite difficult in Sweden for mostly the same reason. I suppose its my fault for always using Manchester as a reference point when people ask where I'm from. Blackpool's (my unfortunate place of birth) time in the Premiership was too ephemeral for Swedes to reference, and as great as Tom Finney was, he wasn't great enough to allow me to say I'm from Preston.
I don't think I've ever bothered going as far as to say I'm from Leyland. Even when I lived in England

Wish I had a quid for everyone who thinks that Darwen is Darwin, in Australia not Lancs and named after that "evolution guy". Any other Darreners on here?

Used to go train-spotting in Leyland, on us bikes, I get out of breath just driving over those hills now!

I've got one of the long platform seats from Leyland station in my garden. Fully restored if a bit too bright. I often wonder how many locos that seat has seen

I have a similar experience when i have to work in Liverpool. As sooner as i open my mouth its...
Wheres yous from then....manchester.
So what is it then United or Citeh.....none
Ehh....im not actually from manchester
Oh....yeah im from.....At this point the brakes go on. Do i tell them i am from Blackburn or actually born in Accrington. I tried the Accrington option once a got the reference to the milk advert). It was then a discovered there are no quiet Liverpool persons and i actually met someone called Aggie. I thought Aggie was some vague Liverpudian dialect describing a female of a certain age. Not for one minute did think any parent would actually subject their offspring to bring called Aggie. Anyway i think it went something, sorry somethink like HEY AGGIE THIS LADS FROM ACC-RING-TON...ACCRINGTON STANLEY! WHO ARE THEY! at the top of her voice. From then on i am officially from Great Harwood which is true and the most safe option.

Y’all should try being Blackburn Rovers fans, living in Central Texas.

The only persons here who have a clue who Blackburn is, is “Limey John”, self-proclaimed, a vehicle headliner specialist here. He’s from Bristol, but no, he’s not a fan of either club there. He’s a Nottingham Forest ultra, Clough & Ian Bowyer disciple, etc. we’ve actually had a great conversation. “Eh, Blackbun Rovuhs, did ya say, mate? Yeah, they had their moment in the sun.”

You're not the only one Waco, being in Northeast Ohio, the only person that has any semblance of an idea of Blackburn was a professor of mine who supports Liverpool. He was also born and raised in the Lancashire area as well.

So who is going up along with Rovers and Wigan. Shrewsbury and Rotherham are currently fighting for that last promotion place in the play off final. Its gone to extra time and with fifteen minutes to go its Rotherham who have a 2-1 lead.
Times up folks and its Rotherham who complete the set of who came down from the championship last season and return first time of asking. Some are saying its a bit tough on Shrewsbury but the season is long and hard and you have to maintain a challenge. I felt they didnt improve their squad in January whereas Rovers did. Shrewsbury have some good players and we might be facing some of them next season in the championship. Some might even be in Rovers colours.

It's very tough on Shrewsbury, and another example of why the playoffs really suck in terms of fairness.

I really don't believe that. It could be the playoff culture that has been bred into me through American sports, but I think it adds an extra layer of competition and chance to do something more.

I do wish Shrewsbury came up too, but that's how playoffs shake things out.

Well I don't really get why all the teams don't play each other home and away in American systems for a start.....

In American football, it's because the sport is too physical (meaning it's a 100% go league where all your effort is given now) and you are just asking for massive rosters over a 30 game season, or if you play everyone, that's 62 games a year.

Basketball does it though, the MLS however doesn't which is weird to me. NHL does play each team twice I believe. MLB has games everyday and play a 162 game season.
