The Blackburn Rovers 'We Are Going Up' Celebration Thread
Re: The Blackburn Rovers 'We Are Going Up' Celebration Thread
pointless comparing them really. although the sheer number of games in a basketball / hockey season is pretty impressive. baseball less so because its less energetic I guess.

Bah, a game a week for four months too hard? Softies.

Funnily enough just read this quote from Steph Curry after the playoff semi...
Barely a half..."Basketball is a 48-minute game and no matter how badly we played, how many shots we missed, there's always time to turn it around," said point guard Curry.

Re: The Blackburn Rovers 'We Are Going Up' Celebration Thread
I seem to remember the early play off system involved the first two teams being promoted and those in the play off place played against the teams in the relegation places. For example Rovers once finished in the play off places in the old second division and had to play Chelsea who finished in the relegation places in Division One. Chelsea came to Ewood first and beat Rovers. In the return fixture at Stamford Bridge it was a heavy defeat for Rovers. Not long after the present system was adopted. Rovers themselves benefited hugely from the playoffs when being promoted to the first premier league season. If it wasnt for the play offs we might never have won the premier league. It does seem unfair for the team who finishes third in the league to lose out on promotion to the team who finished sixth. But when it works in your favour there are not many complaints.
Re: The Blackburn Rovers 'We Are Going Up' Celebration Thread
It's unfair in a situation where a team that's been pushing first and second all season can then lose out to the sixth team. At the end of this season, Shrewsbury and Charlton had an equal chance of winning the playoffs in theory, despite there being a 16 point gap between them. Obviously the other argument is that the 3rd place team should be winning, they've finished in the highest position and so should be favourites, but as we all know football doesn't work like that.
When it's close, it's a fair and exciting way of doing it, if all 4 teams are within a few points of each other then it's a good way to see who can give one final push.

why should it be fair?... the playoffs are designed to keep the league interesting for longer.
Re: The Blackburn Rovers 'We Are Going Up' Celebration Thread
I think the best players should take turns playing for each team. You get Salah this week Shrewsbury.
Re: The Blackburn Rovers 'We Are Going Up' Celebration Thread
unfortunately this is the week he can't run... also, it's too late for the playoff final.
Re: The Blackburn Rovers 'We Are Going Up' Celebration Thread
I didn't say it was fair

I can't help thinking that Sunderland will be a 'shoe in' for promotion next season and that Shrewsbury may lose one or two of their best players. Their chance might have gone.

I'll be shocked if they don't lose most of their best players and their manager. Shame really

When do Clubs normally publish their list of players to be released?
There are usually a few surprises.
