Carabao Cup: Bournemouth v Blackburn Rovers, Tue, 25 Sept 2018, KO 19:45

Third round of the cup, likely to see a lot of bench players and reserves. Wondering who will get to start the match. If I had a guess, it would be something like:

Raya
Nyambe-Downing-Mulgrew-Williams
Travis-Smallwood
Palmer-Rothwell-Armstrong
Brereton

Probably see Rodwell on the bench too.

Not really that fussed about this one. We’ve got to travel a long way and hopefully no one gets injured.

They just got walloped by Burnley too.

Sounds like Mulgrew, Dack, Bennett, Graham won't travel with the squad and Lenihan, Reed and Evans unlikely to be starters.

I'd quite happily see a fairly changed side and I imagine Bournemouth will be resting players too, our only issue really is being able to give Nyambe a rest but we don't have much cover in that position unless you're slotting Travis in there. I'd go with something along the lines of:

------------------Raya
Nyambe Downing Grayson Williams
------------Travis Rodwell
Armstrong----Rothwell------Palmer
-----------------Brereton

Quite attacking I guess you could have Conway side over Armstrong or Palmer. Will be good if Brereton gets a start as a central striker too.

Nyambe is only 20, he should be able to play four times a week. I wonder just how far we have to get in this competition before the manager and fans take it seriously. When one thinks of the excitement and crowds created by our relatively recent home cup matches against Liverpool and United, I'd be reluctant to treat this match like a friendly.

For me personally it was more the fact that it was a very uninspiring draw that is firstly against a good but unglamorous Prem side and absolutely miles away for the club. It's just hard to get excited about and we're going very well in the league.

I feel if it's away from home, and it's a cup match, then there is no reason to risk starters.

Of course there is an advantage to us because we seem to be relatively deep with the squad this season (Travis, Downing, Rothwell, Conway, Palmer, Brereton, Reed, maybe even Grayson). I think the late substitutions during last match is indicative of a second string side coming out.

The most interesting thing for me with this is to see whether Rodwell plays - if he does, we should get an indicator of which Jack Rodwell we’ve signed.

Until we see him competing on the pitch, it’s a bit like Shroedinger’s Rodwell. Is he up for it or not?

Well the bigger question is whether or not Rodwell exists if he is Schroedinger's Rodwell. I imagine he will be stuck back at central defense (unless Mowbray sees he can play central midfield).

It’s more a case of whether his ability and desire exist. We wont know until he plays.

One would hope he still has it, and would make for some shrewd business. I imagine if he is still willing to sign a contract for a club, his desire is still there. Mowbray seems the type to not sign on someone who is just looking for the pay.

Half time, but lucky to be down by 1. Dominating performance by Bournemouth.
