Villa v Rovers . . . . . . Saturday 3pm

Post by Dan » Wed Jan 23, 2008 5:29 pm

Same lineup?
Different lineup?
Better performance?
Can we get the first goal?

Personally i think this could be a very tough match. Villa are looking hard to beat at the moment.

We havent got a chance. We're playing so bad and villa playing so well. I hate to be negative but i'm very disheartened at the moment.

I think we'll beat Villa.

The players obviously want to finish top 6, they have the ambition, and I think Hughes will have got them really motivated for these 2 games (villa and everton).

Excellent optimism there :numpty;

I cant understand how you guys can be so negative about our form at the moment. Sure, perhaps we arn't at the top of our game, but we're unbeaten in 5, picking up points all the time and still only 5 points off 4th place. Ok, so the performance last Saturday was pretty poor, but the efforts on the games previous have been good enough. And lets remember, its the sign of a good side when the team doesn't play well bit still picks up points.

Dont' get me know, i am sure this will be a really tough game, but i think Hughes will really have the boys up for it. These sorts of games are the ones we traditionally do well in. The games against sides in and amongst us, fighting for the European places. I expect that we are going to give Villa a really good game. As has been said, they are on a real good run of form at the moment, but these runs are meant to be ended, and we can be the ones to do it.

For me, I'd bring McCarthy back in for Roberts, as he brings so much more to the team. I don't know where we are with injuries and suspensions, but if we are ok in those departments i'd give the midfield that played against Boro another shot. Pederson on the left, Reid and Dunn in the centre and Bentley on the right. At the back i'd drop Nelsen, bring Ooijer into the centre alongside Samba and play Warnock and Emerton at full backs. Obviously with Friedel in goal.

If that line up is lacking a little bit of quality/inventiveness in the centre, as was the case last Saturday, i'd move Bentley inside for one of the CMs, and move Emerton forward from right back to right wing, and Zura can come in at right back. Or ever bring Derbyshire on on the right wing and leave Emerton at right back. I think that line up has good flexibility and more than enough quality to go and win us the game

Easy win for us, we want revenge. So long as we don't give away any freekicks in wide areas in our own half...

It's winable, but easy? Villa are one of the better teams this season. I'll go for 2-1 either way.

Wow. I think I'll go buy a razor blade shop and open up outside Ewood.

Hmm i may be about to suggest something very silly but i've been wondering...

Have we ever played 5-3-2?
Usual suspects at the back with emo & warnock playing "wing back". Midfield Bentley, Reid and Gamst/Dunn. Mcarthy + roque upfront.
Something to try (very easy to revert to 442 if its going tits up) or should i just stand in the corner :dunce:
