Southport sign 2 Rovers players on loan

Post by viking_shaw » Thu Jan 09, 2014 4:11 pm

Defender Kellen Daly and midfielder John O'Sullivan join the Sandgrounders on loan from Blackburn Rovers.

Not much to shout about but good to get the youth out and gaining experience!

Shocked that O'Sullivan has gone out on loan to a team that far down the ladder. I thought he was on the periphery of the first team and would have imagined him going to a bottom League 1 team at most

What division have they gone to? The way i see it is that they'll be getting more football and that's surely a benefit

They're in the Conference, or whatever name it's known by these days.

I think it's because Rovers are desperate just to lower the wage bill.Hence, they do not care where the player are sent.

when a player goes out on loan, the other club has to pay their wages right?

Not always. You can negotiate what ether wage deal you want :) We could loan players out for free if we really wanted to.

Yeah, I remember Man City paying a portion of Adebayor's wages when he was loaned to Tottenham.

They've gone somewhere local where they are guaranteed competitive game time. Hopefully, if Southport really is below their level, they'll be encouraged to really show what they can do and come out of it looking even better.

I can't see Southport paying anymore than half of their wages either, there would be no point. We've not loaned them out with a view to getting rid, it's to allow Southport to field a decent team and to allow our youngsters some experience, it seems silly demanding they pay loads for a mutually beneficial loan.

Speaking of youngsters, where is Robbie Cotton? He was knocking on the first team door a while back and now he's nowhere. Anyone have any info on this?

As far as I know, the 'next Steven Gerrard' is still at Rovers. The official website still has his profile listed with the Reserves, but it says he's only made one substitute appearance this season. Maybe he's been injured?

I don't think he's developed as expected. Whenever I've seen him, I've wondered why such a fuss was made of him. Perhaps sitting on the first team bench as a schoolboy went to his head and he hasn't worked hard enough since. But he still must only be 18/19ish?

So wait, you're saying may have slightly exaggerated the lads abilities?! But he got the Brazilian Denis Irwin and Scottish Wayne Rooney monikers spot on :yeahright: !
