Rennes defender Dimitri Cavare and Watford defender Juan Paredes were both loan targets for the Championship club.
Coyle, 50, 38-34-38, also confirmed they tried to sign Lens defender Abdoul Ba, as well as Vancouver Whitecaps' Giles Barnes.
Is it just me that finds it odd that they felt the need to tell us Coyle's age?
I thought it even odder they decided to include his "vital" statisics.

Quite a standard reporter thing... Probably someone more used to writing local news.

I've usually seen it used where relevant - in football journalism they often write it if someone is being linked or signing a new contract. It just seems extraneous here. We all know Coyle already.

I feel like the one thing that Coyle was good at is getting players in and the introduction of Paul Senior has taken that away.............

They said that last week but didn't say which week. A quick root round on twitter from the usual suspects reveals Coyle hasn't a clue what is going on and its in the hands of Paul Senior.

Efe Ambrose - Rovers to appeal work permit refusal?
EFE AMBROSE will return to Celtic – if Blackburn Rovers fail in their fight against the English FA’s decision to refuse a work permit.
The frozen-out Hoops defender thought he had secured a loan deal with Owen Coyle’s Championship strugglers on January transfer deadline day.
However, Ambrose has had his application rejected because he hasn’t made a sufficient amount of international appearances for Nigeria.
Now the Ewood Park outfit will launch an appeal against the decision, but it cannot be heard until next week.
That has scuppered boss Coyle’s plans of handing Ambrose a dramatic debut in the home FA Cup-tie against Manchester United on Sunday.
The 28-year-old right-back or centre-half has played only twice for the Hoops this season, the last outing coming against Astana in a Champions League qualifier on July 27.
And the unpredictable back-four operator has also dropped out of the reckoning for his country, despite picking up 51 caps.
Unfortunately, the English FA based their ruling on recent appearances and the player has represented his nation only five times over the past two years.

Probably. Couldn't remember if we did or not, I've not been paying much attention to Rovers this week :D

I think we were waiting for them to decide whether to grant a work permit. They decided not to yesterday, so now we're appealing that decision.

But we knew they wouldn't give a work permit because we knew he didn't meet the criteria, so we knew it would go to an appeal. Didn't we? Why it's taken two weeks just to get to the point we knew was inevitable on deadline day is another matter...
