But why did Charlton loan him there in the first place, why are they so keen for him to leave when they desperately need quality themselves? For a 22 year old he's had a lot of clubs, he only seems to stay anywhere for a few months and then moves on.Gibbon wrote: Watt was apparently on his way to Cardiff until embargo stopped the deal, so he was upwardly mobile when we stepped in.

Re: Jordan Rhodes
Maybe they needed a loan fee and he wanted to leave? There could be plenty of reasons that don't necessarily reflect poorly on the player.
Re: Jordan Rhodes
Charlton need to save money. They were looking to offload some of their highest earners. They also had Reece Oxford joining from West Ham but cancelled it at the last min to save cash. Speaking to a charlton fan he says the watt is a superb player but has an attitude problem. He jokingly also said to play for charlton these days you have to be Belgian or from the youth system.Rover the Top wrote:But why did Charlton loan him there in the first place, why are they so keen for him to leave when they desperately need quality themselves? OK, say he did want to leave, that doesn't reflect poorly on him just 11 months after joining them on a 3 1/2 year contract? And that after only spending 6 months of a 5 year contract at the club he was at before? A brief look into his history flags up bust-ups with managers and fitness issues. Maybe whatever problems he's had are behind him and this is the club where he'll settle down and make the most of his talents. But I think there's reason for caution with expectations for him.Gibbon wrote:Maybe they needed a loan fee and he wanted to leave? He's moved around a lot but his scoring record isn't that bad for a youngster, 7 clubs since he was 16, 117 appearances and 30 goals, not amazing but not terrible. His worst spell is actually at Standard Liege and Charlton. His international record is good too. Plenty of potential for him to be pretty good.
Re: Jordan Rhodes
Simon smiths report for Lancashire telegraph sums it up nicely.
"It's all well and good having an expensive Ferrari chassis but if the engine and brake-pads are cut-price spare parts then it's futile.
With the massive fee Rovers can now begin to reassemble a vehicle that even the grouches will appreciate as it runs up the Championship hill a bit quicker.
And now four or five players that Paul Lambert actively wanted are in the side - along with some he obviously rates - I expect an upswing in fortunes."

Just have to hope we don't go down before we can do anything with that fee, which isn't all that much more than breaking even on the player.

Looks like Rhodes could be on his way from Boro. Turf Moor bound?..maybe Celtic? Rovers on a cheeky loan deal

Amazing how many players leave us and then seem to fall into the abyss, innit.
