If we didn't agree a fee it'll go to tribunal.

A great shame - whoever is responsible for contracts at Ewood should hurl themselves into the river. This lad should have had a decent contract offered 18 months ago. Josh King is reputedly worth £35M! -Mahoney could eventually be in the same category. Incidentally how much did we get from Bournemouth?
Meh. I've still not seen enough from him to know he'll be worth millions. Still very young and raw amd we've had plenty of those over the years that amounted to nothing.

He has been very inconsistent for us. He certainly has potential but nobody can tell where that might lead. They were talking contract with him last year so not like it hasn't been on the table.

Since when has what actually happened ever mattered? The kid didn't see his future at Rovers, which is sad since he's a fan, but understandable since the guys making promises to him are unlikely to be around long enough to see them happen. What's the point in Mowbray telling a player what will happen over the next three years when he himself is unlikely to last 6 months? We're not in a position to be anything other than an opportunity for a player to put themselves in the shop window at the moment.

I've seen him liking posts on Twitter where fans have speculated if Coyle hadn't been there then he may have signed a contract beforehand. Shows what he thought of Coyle either way

Coyle and the club handled him badly. We were getting mullered in the first half of last season. There was no pathway for him or any young player to break into the first team which must have seemed unfair as the players with the shirt were not performing , despite being given chance after chance.

Judging his performances when he eventually did get a chance , under Mowbray , he clearly warranted at least a place on the bench from the start of season.

Coyles management of him and some of the other young players that he bought in on loan, was absolutely shocking.

The clubs management of our hotter prospects seems deplorable. Lenihan was clearly a top prospect , captain of the team at youth levels and for his country , yet we didn't secure him and I seem to remember we were sweating on him signing a contract one summer the last one having expired. Young players must look to sort themselves out if the club isn't commiting to them with a year to go. I think Connor may have signed an extension if he had been approached earlier and if he had been getting first team action. Bournemouth are no mugs , so it must have been obvious that Connor was a least a top draw championship player.

We have also let nyambe get to a year left. He has been touted for some time as the best prospect!!! For me Scott Wharton is a must player to secure. He has the technical ability in spades, he just needs to get some muscle definition and he'll be the real deal.

That's quite the whoppper of a first post. Welcome!

But yes, Mahoney was mismanaged the last season. Mowbray knew the importance of keeping him on, so he played him as much as he could within trying to fight off relegation. Unfortunate though that Mahoney couldn't see the vision Mowbray had in mind and be a part of the future.

I think that's a bit unfair on him. He's moved to a well-managed Premier League club. I don't think it's failing to see a vision, it's just that realistically, that vision isn't the best offer on the table.

Don't you think it is possible that Connor had made his mind up before Mowbray arrived, with the club on a downward trajectory and the fact that he wasn't even on the bench with clowns like Feeney just not performing. If he'd been handled right, he would have been given a lot more minutes and felt like a proper part of the first team squad. If we'd had a proper strategy regards bringing players through, he would have been offered a contract a lot earlier.

You only have to look at King.... I am not saying we could have kept him, but how does he suddenly manage to stay fit and develop into a top EPL players within 2 seasons of leaving us? His headless chicken, decision making in the final third have been sorted out and when allied with his clear pace and physical attributes (he is a beast), you've got a top top player.

Maybe Connor feels that the club have let him down.....

We signed him from Stanley! Mowbray seemed keen to play him and advised him to persevere with us for another season. Even if Coyle messed him about, it's not like we didn't give him a pretty good opportunity to prove himself.

Whatever, he's gone.
