His emphasis on making teams 'hard to beat' may cost West Ham the chance of automatic promotion. Reading opened up a four point lead over the Hammers with a win at Upton Park over the weekend. That ended an eleven match unbeaten run for West Ham, but more worringly for Sam, meant they've now just won 1 in 7 and have drawn 5 and lost 1 of their last 6 home games. They should still make the playoffs, though, since the 4 teams below them are all 9 points behind.
