I'll not wheel out the big trolley of "told you so".

meh.

Robinson was by no means a perfect keeper - but he wasn't ever a huge liability for us. Friedel had been a great keeper - but his record this season is pretty poor... certainly a lot worse than Lloris for example, yet his track record means that people think he's the better keeper.

On balance we;d have been as well to keep Brad, but thats with hindsight... there was still a very reasonable case for bringing in Robinson when we did.

At the time I would have kept Friedel if it'd been up to me...however if he had to go, then Robinson looked to be a decent replacement.

I'd also have kept Fielding an Bunn though.

Tbf, Jake Kean's done a fine job.

Yep, so imagine if we'd just kept Friedel, groomed Kean and when Friedel started to wobble popped Kean into the side.

We'd be better off financially and have had a better keeper for the last few years.

Considering the vast majority of arguments put forward to make the switch at the time were that we wouldn't be able to sell Friedel in a few years is pretty ironic considering that we have an unsellable Robinson not even warming the bench....

It's arguably the worst piece of business the club has done in recent years - selling off one of the best goalkeepers in the PL rather than extending his contract because of some unjustified prejudice over his age, then spending more on an inferior player with a dismal career record. Robinson's inability to stop the ball going in the net was a big factor in our relegation. Everywhere he's been he's let in too many goals, too many that you'd expect a top level 'keeper to stop. People may want to knock Friedel and say he's not as good as he was, but he's still better than Robinson ever was. And Robinson has also got worse. Kean may be inexperinced and still needs work on his game, but he's been a massive improvement.

Kean will get better the more he plays, whereas Robbo seemed to be getting worse the more he played

Worth mentioning as well that Friedel requested a transfer.

Because we wouldn't extend his contract?
