Owen to retire

Post by Hudson » Tue Mar 19, 2013 10:40 am

Michael Owen to retire at the end of the season

Shame, a really great player whose career was unfortunately blighted by injury.

It's been a shame how his career suddenly hit a brick wall and he became 'past it' at a relatively young age. 40 goals in 89 games for England, how old was he when he won his last cap? And he's always come across as a likeable guy, unusual for a top class international player...

His last cap was against France in March 2008, when he would have been 28. He was usually really good for England and I would much rather of had a fit Owen in the team than Shrek or any of the other useless bunch (Crouch, Wellbeck, Carroll, Defoe).
Agreed he seemed really likeable as pundit - much prefer him to to the boring lot like Mark Lawrenson, Lee Dixon, Alan Hansen, etc.
