I wouldn't take Ferdinand because I think he's long past his best and I've always considered him a bit of a dopey liability anyway. I wouldn't take Terry because he's a knobhead. Possible alternatives include: Gary Cahill, Joleon Lescott, Phil Jones, Phil Jagielka, Chris Smalling, Micah Richards... and of course, Scott Dann.

John Terry alongside Gary Cahill or Phil Jones for me. Richards has to be at right back for me with Cole at left back as he has been sensational since the departure of AVB

Indeed - I'd leave Terry at home because he's a dick... but Ashley Cole who is also a dick is playing far too well to leave behind.

Walker, Jagielka, Cahill, Cole for my money

Terry's a complete dick, but is quite useful to have in the squad too. Rio's been overrated for a long time in my opinion, and hasn't done anything this year to suggest he should be anywhere near the squad. I'd leave Gerrard at home too.

I agree about Gerrard but you know he'll be taken. He doesn't fit in the team at all and he's vastly over-rated with injuries taking there toll on him

I think Terry is shite.

He only ever looked solid when alongside Carvalho or Rio Ferdinand (circa <2011).

Without wanting to divert the thread completely but not starting Lampard would be a massive mistake... got to pick on form and he's in awesome form.

He's always been England's best midfielder anyway. How people can pick Gerrard over him is laughable.

because Gerrard was much better for a while. However now Lampard is better.

The part I never understood was how people insist on putting themselves in camps rather than just objectively decide who is the best at any given time.

I've never thought Gerrard was better. The success Lampard has had at Chelsea, being the only midfielder to be scoing 20+ goals a season for 4 or 5 seasons on the trot (yes a few pens but oh well) and then having Gerrard get the more advanced role for England when he's better playing deeper anyway (i know Lampard plays deeper now but i'm on a bout a few seasons ago) was just a joke.
