Euros 2020 ...where?

Post by daib0 » Fri Sep 23, 2016 2:00 pm

Euro 2020 - Tournament format announced

The day before yesterday UEFA unveiled their masterplan to celebrate 60 years of the European Championships and have decided to host the tournament in 13 different destinations throughout Europe.

The host cities/counties are:

London/England
Munich/Germany
Baku/Azerbaijan
Saint Petersburg/Russia
Rome/Italy
Copenhagen/Denmark
Bucharest/Romania
Amsterdam/Netherlands
Dublin/Ireland
Bilbao/Spain
Budapest/Hungary
Brussels/Belgium
Glasgow/Scotland

London will host both semi-finals and the final.

Good idea or an expensive shambles?

I don't. Given that fans in the stadium were long ago dismissed as irrelevant in favour of tickets for UEFA cronies it's no shock. Another nail in the coffin of my interest.

Uefa have yet to confirm how the matches will work but there has been talk of grouping venues based on geographic proximity.

That's what I keep telling them when I'm there. They just give me blank looks though.

Could be an expensive shambles.

Everyone knows flights can be bought at bargain prices in advance and the price increases dramatically for last minute departures. But we don't know in advance who will pass from the group stages, so tickets for the knock-out stages for most fans will be a scramble. Therefore it's going to be very expensive for people who want to follow their nation in person as they'll have to be prepared to travel anywhere in Europe at very short notice ...

Its a terrible idea. I'm looking forwards to seeing jetlagged players after an overnight travel from their training camp in Spain to play in Bakou the next day....
