Hmmm...maybe THAT'S why they wear pads (??)

Kick in the chest with an ice-skate? No thank you. :(

Not sure, but I was definitely thinking of that as one of the many ways I'd like to kill you.

6 million ways to die - choose one. ;)

yup.... remeber reading that.

further underlining the 'hockey players are psychopathic' idea. Also note that they didn't have to wear helmets until the start of the eighties.

head + ice = dead.

Jesus christ... I hadn't heard of this at all... thats horrible, but i suppose its a miracle its such a rare occurance. I read a article on ESPN that said he partially severed his carotid artery and only just missed the jugular vein... apparently he saved his own life by skating to the bench.

Apparently its only happened only once before, to a goaltender, Clint Malarchuk, back in the late 80's. I swear the footage of his injury is one of the most grotesque and disturbing things i've ever seen as a sports fan. :vomit:

I don't wanna link it to be honest, but its up on youtube if you feel curious or the need to see it... just search the dudes name.

Oh christ... the big incidents keep on coming in the NHL!

Have a read of this...

http://www.foxnews.com/wires/2008Mar02/ ... th,00.html

and watch this...

A completely legit, clean hit... but you have to admit the defender must have known where the pole was! Ouch is that painful to watch...

I certainly hope Ryan Smyth is going to be okay. he is one tough hombre. i think it was last year or the year before he got a bunch of teeth knocked out in a game and kept playing. What surprises me about that check was it appeared he had his head down which is rule number one in hockey: keep your head up!
RS is an experienced veteran and it surprised me he was caught like that. anyway, i hope he gets better and back with the team as soon as possible! (even though i hate the Avs)
