Excellent.

Looks like a solid choice. Currently going through the mourning period and will hopefully be making a toaster purchase soon. Wondering whether to forsake toasting altogether and buy myself a wonderful panini press... if push comes to shove I can always make toast in the deep fat fryer.

My £5 Asda smartprice toaster has been going strong for 5 years. Nothing special, it can defrost frozen bread and toast the stuff that isn't frozen. And reheat the toast that I forgot I put in there 20 mins ago.

Although, Asda's own bread is too big for it :(

Good lord... it almost sounds like you bought it without reading independent reviews and road testing a couple of units in store?

:)

I know - next time I'm going to get them to set up a full 'breakfast experience' corner for me so I can test various different kettles and toasters before making a decision. Maybe a couple of different newspapers and models of radio too. There'll be a bring your own bread and coffee policy, obviously.

It's the only way. Use marked bread too so they can't swap it out for pre-prepared 'perfect' toast.
