Laptop woes

Post by SheepShagginRover » Mon Sep 03, 2012 10:37 pm

Essentially, I leave for Uni on the 7th. I bought a Dell laptop a week or so back on this assurance from an online Dell agent:
Agent (Nagaswaroop_YV): "It's expected to be delivered on or before this date if ordered today on a Card."
08/30/2012 07:19:26PM
Agent (Nagaswaroop_YV): "4th September."
08/30/2012 07:20:20PM
Calvin: "Okay, thanks very much. What's the latest it'll be? I need the laptop before the 7th as I leave for university then. Is there much of a chance of it not being delivered before the 7th?"
08/30/2012 07:21:16PM
Agent (Nagaswaroop_YV): "If you're ordering the Sleeve Separately it will definitely come before the 7th."
I'm now being told the laptop won't arrive until the 11th, which is useless to me: I leave home on the 7th. I'll be in Plymouth. The family stuck with the laptop. Mailing it down when it arrives/changing the delivery address I'm a bit iffy over. Shared accommodation with new people, will it really arrive? etc.

What's to be done? Is there anything I can really do from a consumer rights point of view on the back of that assurance from the Dell agent?

Hmmm. Shitter.

Best bet would be to change the delivery address. At least that way, Dell are responsible for it arriving.

Dad decided he fancied a new laptop, and will take the Dell. I went out and bought a HP today.

One more laptop than anticipated in the family.

My 8 year old laptop that was running beautifully, has been well looked after, runs W7 perfectly, and has a great 17" screen is now dead. Both the bloody hinges holding the screen up have snapped and seem to be unavailable as spares (for a reasonable price.)
