Re: Current Events/News
There is a general trend in conceptual bollocks projects like this to be deliberately vague and then claim afterwards that the people who didn't understand were idiots.

Perhaps, doesn't make their point any less valid though. Affirmative action is ethically just as bad as the discriminatory behaviour it's meant the combat.

A story about penguin infidelity has alot of people captivated recently. A part from the memes being pretty hilarious to my simple mind, I'm quite shocked about the nature of the fight. I believed penguins to be monogamous, which, made this even more fascinating. (Again, simple minds perhaps!).

Re: Current Events/News
Does anyone find the American election system completely bonkers? Particularly that they announce the results before counting the votes?

Well technically, given Clinton's rhetoric, it was more likely to start under her over clashes with Russia in Syria.
Otherwise, when someone insults his golf courses.

That's it though. I don't expect pacifist presidents, they're going to react to events by flexing their military muscle sometimes. But then there was Dubya who seemed like he thought he was playing with soldiers. And I think Trump will be worse - he's an intolerant racist who seems to act impulsively. I think he's going to start fights without thinking of the consequences.mrblackbat wrote:Well technically, given Clinton's rhetoric, it was more likely to start under her over clashes with Russia in Syria.

Re: Current Events/News
This is what happens when you empower the white working class people and find a way to separate the other races. This election has proved that people are stuck in an idealist world where scathing remarks can be made about people and nothing will be done about it.
I never felt such a divide between the college graduate educated and the working class.
It also didn't help that both the messages from Bernie Sanders and Trump were of change, so when you have more than half of your party feel put aside, this is the result.
I just hope he doesn't do anything terribly stupid.

Do? Like he hasn't spent the last two years doing terribly stupid things? Nobody seems to care.

Re: Current Events/News
The most worrying thing is that he has the most power of any president for donkeys, with a supreme court judge position up for appointment to skew that republican, a republic senate and a republican house of reps. He'll be able to get through whatever he wants.
Hopefully, the eased rhetoric of his victory speech might indicate that the campaign has been a charade and he's not as much a bigot as made out and that was simply to appeal to a huge portion of the American people. That to me is the saddest part, that there are so many people who lap that shit up. Also, when you do get policy from him, he is actually more liberal than the likes of Ted Cruz, so there is that. Lastly, the comments on Obamacare aren't as bad as they've been made out; sounds more like replacing it with something that works rather than removing it completely. Due to the concessions made in its implementation it's clear that it isn't really working (much like our NHS) and so perhaps a rethink isn't a bad idea.
Clutching at straws? Probably.
