I think there’s quite a few more quality players than that in this side. Raya? Bennett? Smallwood? Bell? Nyambe? Lenihan?
They can all do a good job next season, and there are more.

In general I'd agree... I'd rather we try to add proper quality in a couple of key places rather than make sweeping marginal upgrades across the park.

Players coming through the youth system are the best possible value a football team can have.
We seem to have a vintage crop with Nyambe, Houghton, Travis, Lenihan, Nuttall and Wharton either established or knocking on the door. It would be ludicrous to discard these lads because they are unproven in the Championship.
Preston were promoted from Division 1 and are challenging for the play offs to the Premiership without turning their team upside down.
I agree the team should be strengthened but I'd be happy to back a couple of new signings with the team that got us promoted.

Sorry - Wharton! Doh.
Re: The Blackburn Rovers 'We Are Going Up' Celebration Thread
I just hope he gives a start to Travis against Oxford and also give Nuttall some game time again in the first team as Samuel seems to be in a real rut at the moment. Appreciate he needs to play and get a goal to rebuild his confidence but not sure what to make of him looking to next season.

Extra strange is that you wrote Houghton instead of Wharton, but then wrote Wharton a few names later in the list.

To avoid any further confusion, particularly to my self, I was talking about Scott Wharton. My somewhat pathetic excuse is that , well, I have been going to Ewood for near on 70 years. Whereas I can remember Douglas, Dobing, Dougan Vernon and Mcleod as an exceptional forward line, and before them Mooney, Crossan, Briggs Quigley and Langton I admit to struggling a bit with the current crop. Afraid you'll just have to bear with me.

Stillgrowling & duggy,
You guys are great examples of perseverence & steadfastness, we “younger ones” can emulate. Its easy to be a fan & wear the shirt when winning, but much harder when the wins have dried up, & we are left to wave at the parade that has passed us by. My hat’s off to you, think & thinners!
Yes, I would not anticipate a roster overhaul; Mowbray has shown a good hand for finding capable players so far, he will need to do even more; ‘he who has been faithful with little will be entrusted with more.’
Ewood will be jumping Saturday; lots to celebrate, with two promotions & a trophy, by 1st teamers, U23’s, & women.
Happy days are here again!

I'm surprised you put up with our nonsense.stillgrowling wrote: ↑Wed May 02, 2018 1:24 pmTo avoid any further confusion, particularly to my self, I was talking about Scott Wharton. It's great that we have such a wide age range of posters on here, it makes it a much more interesting place.

All,
Big recognition to Stillgrowling who beats me for length of Rovers suffering, wow! I remember a few of that 1950's forward line but only vaguely, the next decade was my favourite.
Thanks for your patience with us old farts! I wasn't suggesting we don't give the youngsters a chance, I am all for that, especially after what the U23s just did. I was talking about the journeymen who are good at this level and can still make more money than you and me put together with another League 1 club but I don't want next year to be more anguish and negativity - been there too often! Let's have good football first with no nail biting this time next year.
Also cheeering for Scousers tonight, I always had a soft spot for Merseyside teams (having lived in Manchester!!)
