Re: Southend v Blackburn Sat 5 August 2017, 15:00
When you looked at Southend's and our starting line-ups, there wasn't much difference in quality between the two squads. I'm not sure why everyone thinks our squad is great and that we'll walk this league. Yes we've signed a few players, but so did Lambert and then Coyle, with people "excited&q...

Re: Value of Rovers
Nobody will pay Venky's the debt owed to them as a purchase price for the club, and Venky's would be foolish to expect anybody to. However, Venky's could demand cash equal to the value of assets left (the stadium etc) to save some face, whilst writing off the debt. Assuming they still make healthy p...

Re: Probability of relegation
I remained relatively optimistic of staying up until yesterday. Wolves were awful, had little to play for and were there for the taking. We have run out of games and have drawn or lost far too many must-win games recently. The fact other teams around us have picked up form is neither here nor there ...

Re: Tony Mowbray
Even if it was possible, nobody in their right mind would do it and if they did they would have such little business acumen or sense that I wouldn't want them running a club i support. Therefore its ridiculous. So if you want to talk about sensible comments, perhaps you should consider your own. No...

Re: Tony Mowbray
How about making a sensible comment? The suggestion is possible, albeit unrealistic in the circumstances. I have worked on international group reorganisations where profits or losses are "moved" to enhance or diminish a particular company's balance sheet/statutory accounts. I would be inte...

Re: Tony Mowbray
I like the idea of propping up a loss making business by simply putting a profit making business under it. I think everyone should do it. http://www.icaew.com/technical/audit%20and%20assurance/~/media/6837da24c587470aa33732c58c1f6d14.ashx?inf_contact_key=d506bc32f9bc00678cccc6c656e22c56cc5610...

Re: Tony Mowbray
I'm still not clear how you think a different owner is going to be able to put in more money when the rules stop you doing it. Because a new owner would presumably have to pay off at least some of the Venky's debt in order to acquire the club? I haven't read the FFP rules, but if we're debt free or...

Re: Treacy Departs
I was recently speaking to a taxi driver in Dublin who is apparently good mates with Treacy. Apparently he developed a strong gambling and drink problem and after turning out for a League of Ireland team last season, he has retired at the age of 28. A sorry end to a career.

Re: Tony Mowbray
I'm surprised we managed to attract somebody of Mowbray's calibre and even more surprised that Venky's appear to have been organised enough to have a replacement lined up to replace Coyle, in what was an unusually timed departure (but what's new with these owners). On paper, Mowbray is better than m...

Re: Owen Coyle, Rovers manager
Venky's PR image has taken a phenomenal bashing in the UK And that's the very small-time approach I was talking about. Sure, they're hated by Blackburn fans, and good for a joke to the rest of English football. But what exactly was their PR image in the UK before they took over Rovers? Nobody had h...

Re: Owen Coyle, Rovers manager
I'm not sure it has been a 'complete disaster' from Venky's point of view. I think fans take a very small-time approach to the losses the club makes, viewing them in isolation. It's understandable, to the average Joe losing £20m a year seems insane, it's too much to comprehend. But the multi-millio...

Re: Owen Coyle, Rovers manager
Lambert was ultimately a disappointment and will do well to secure a role at a top club after an underwhelming spell with us. Although Coyle wouldn't have been my first choice and his recent managerial reigns have been disastrous, his overall record is no worse than Lambert's. Hopefully Coyle will r...

Re: it took 5 'managers' in 5 years but - Venky's, I forgive you.
I don't think we can consider forgiving Venky's unless and until we're back in the PL challenging for Champions League places, like they promised when they first acquired the club. The decisions they made during the first two years of their ownership were astonishingly bad. We wouldn't be in the pos...

Re: The Paul Lambert thread
Lambert seemed to be the best choice out of the main candiates linked to the role - I prefer him to Tim Sherwood anyway, who has done very little as a manager so far to justify the hype. Lambert's Norwich team played good football and he did a great job there. His last season at Villa was a disaster...
