Re: Blackburn Rovers v Middlesbrough, Sat 17 Aug 2019, KO 15:00

OOJW!! he lives, he breathes! So nice to see your name up there sir, especially on JW's "day"! Welcome back, to Ewood and the board!

Now, where's Starr got to these days, lost in Oswaldtwistle?

Good steady win on Saturday, just need another 20 or so at home like that. Up the Rovers!

Re: The Bolton chaos

Well said Darth Rover, Bolton are a good Lancs club with a great history. I spent many happy/sad moments at the mud-hole called Burnden Park! Their long-suffering supporters might appreciate some mental support right now poor sods, there but for the grace of Venkies.... (or will it eventually be, th...

Re: Fred Pickering R.I.P.

J.Capelle, nice to hear from you. Blegburn is how the old timers pronounced Blackburn in the local dialect. Funny you mentioned dugdoo, never heard that but growing up i'Darwen, I was referred to as being a "Darren doodoo", because we don't just say "they doo" but add another to make it "they doo do...

Re: Fred Pickering R.I.P.

Mr Blackbat, thanks for that link, I hadn't seen it, in fact we sort of forgot about Fred when he went Toffeeing. What I meant was that he didn't stay long at Goodison and never developed into the higher level he could have been at Rovers. Maybe I was just fed up at another of my heroes going. Mike ...

Re: Fred Pickering R.I.P.

Gibbon, Blackbat and all, Thanks for your quick replies. Well the hat trick was part of a 10-0 win against the good ole US of A, pre-Friedel! Yes the Everton thing was a bad choice, though he probably didn't have a lot to do with it, players weren't their own bosses in those days. The Toffees were t...

Fred Pickering R.I.P.

Ey Up, Sad to say another of my heroes from the 1960's, Fred Pickering, has passed away. I see my namesake hero Dougie, gave a few words of tribute to him, describing Fred as "just as good as Alan Shearer", which is high praise indeed! Fred was a Blegburn lad and I first saw him as a decent left bac...

Re: Mike Harrison R.I.P.

Growling, We'll agree to differ on Noddy, but maybe I was being a bit harsh, he was a willing lad who gave 100% and put in some great crosses! I do remember that famous attack around and up to the you-know-what Cup Final, top class players all of them and a thrill to watch as a youngster. But I thin...

Re: Mike Harrison R.I.P.

Growling, couldn't agree more (the defence was always a bit generous though) and it's funny that my boyhood Rovers are still my favourite even over the 1990s team. As well as my name-sake and Ronnie Clayton, we had some of the best players in the country for 7-10 years but of course too many were al...

Ewood could be seen as The Old Curiosity Shop for decades and has been a Bleak House for too many of them (any more puns in the titles...?)

Re: Mike Harrison R.I.P.

Ey Darth, thanks for the response, I don't expect many to join in the "when I was a lad.." stuff but I thought it might be interesting for Roverites who are curious about our history. Oh and by the way, go easy on that old-farts memory thing, your Dad's wrong Tom Jones was in the Indian not the chip...

Mike Harrison R.I.P.

All younger than me! We lost a stalwart Rover this week in Mike Harrison, our left winger in the 1962-68 period. Footballers were different then, you were either thin, tall, small, fat or whatever you were born with, no weights making everyone a look-alike athlete unless you include the weight of a ...

Jimmy Mac

All true footy fans should be sad to hear the death of Jimmy Mac, no matter who they support. He was great player and a real gent treated terribly by the then owner of Burnely, Bob "Mr Sausages" Lord. Fortunately Burnley's later owners saw sense and gave him the respect he more than deserved. He was...

You can't make this up....!

Anyone else notice this precious bit of footy news from the nether regions..? East Fife and Forfar drew 1-1 today but as it was a Cup they went to penalties, giving the priceless final score... Clear throat,... Best BBC announcer's voice.... "Forfar 5, East Fife 4", it had to be a set up, or is it A...

Re: Where are they now?

Sat sitting watching t'telly as a lot of skilfull but oversensitive babies chase a bag of wind in Russia, I can see Nzonzi and Diouff (sp?) but who else graced our beloved turf at Ewood in their rise to fame and fortune...? And Thursday will tell us just how good this version of the three Lions are....
