Re: Rovers vs. Doncaster, FA Cup: Post-match

Waco, Good question. I'll join in. Maybe I am a bit old fashioned (!) but I assume somebody paid to watch this online, did we give value? Did we seem to be aware of the need to at least look motivated? According to reports by fans (admitedly on FB), TM acted even less interested today than in a norm...

Disclaimer: I hereby certify that the current occupier of the Rovers shirt named Douglas is NO relation... ;)

My legal team is investigating making him change his name

Re: Memory Lane Pics

Waco, thanks, I'd love to see all of them, as these two photographers had a 20 year business in Lancs, weddings in the morning and footy in the afternoon - they must have taken thousands of pics. It's as much a social history collection as a footy one isn't it and for a Texan some of the scenes away...

Re: Memory Lane Pics

Still Growling, Agree, the photo quality is outstanding, he obviously knew what he was doing. I wonder how many pics there are that the Guardian didn't select for this piece. Yes that's Dobing, such a good player with a shot like a cannon. I saw him score at the Darren end once and the ball got jamm...

Memory Lane Pics

All, For those of a certain age (or is that just me on here?) this is nostalgia, for everyone else, interesting viewing of our (and our local rivals) history. My fave is Noddy in the cold, (polluted) R Darwen - those were the days, now they wear gloves in Sept - and my namesake teaching boys to swim...

Stuart Metcalfe RIP

All, Another sad RIP to post for this Rover through and through, who died much too young. Local lad born in town and came back after his playing days were done to be a good local Radio footy "expert". He was a small, fast and nippy winger at first (when midfielders were still mostly brawny...

Had to be Kestrels in barns, Barnsley was where the film "Kes" was set, (for people of a certain age!)

All, whether we like it or not (and I don't particularly) this is now a business and we have some really good employees who are under-performing, as well as other employees who are past their cost/benefit or sell-date and some who are out of their league (literally!). In any other business, the mana...

Re: Where are they now?

Greetings Waco! Good to hear from you and thanks for validating my namesake suggestion. That online legend thing is good to keep people interested so that's nothing but a good thing for the club. As for Derek Faz, he was Mr Rovers at a point when we were in a long long slump. Through several manager...

Re: Where are they now?

No Ethiaa,I didn't know though I don't recall too much Tyneside glory since the 1970s! "Come back Malcolm, all is forgiven". I could have looked it up but I thought someone on here would be much quicker than me at that anyway. Still standing by my legend opinion too! Have a nice weekend ev...

Re: Where are they now?

All, I expected Shearer to win that legend vote over BD but I will only change my vote when I see the Alan Shearer Stand going up at Ewood! :D Interestingly whenever I see Shearer introduced or talked about it's usually along the lines of "Former Newcastle and England....", rarely if ever ...

Re: Where are they now?

Greetings All, Anyone else following this Rovers Legend competition on Facebook? Today we are asked to choose between A. Shearer and Dougie! Bloody cheek! Of course Shearer will win as few on there even saw my namesake play, but when you were a one-club man for over 500 games at the top level for 16...

Re: Where are they now?

Totally agree Waco, great stuff to watch again. I was impressed by MGP over the years and again on these replays especially his brace at Old Trafford - loved the look on Scholes' face, but had forgotten that 7-1 stuffing of West Ham which made me smile. I'd also forgotten we used to have a player ca...

Re: My trip to Ewood.

Waco,

You obviously didn't do the Barbary Coast tour in Blackburn by night around 1968 either! - that might be stretching some readers on here too.

I lived near Bath in the 80's, nice town but full of bloody tourists!

Up the Rovers,

Duggy

Re: The Club Formerly Known As Frank Lampard's Now Wayne Rooney's Derby County v Blackburn Rovers, Sun 8 March 2020, KO

All, my belated input about our left backs from an old 'un. Eckersley wasn't actually all that great and was from that earlier knobbly-knee'd era, so the best in my book was Keith Newton who was a "modern" player, fast, wanna-be winger, used either foot, tall (though his heading skills wer...
