Re: General Election

It could be an astute economic policy in the long run, but it's always difficult to sell politically because opponents will focus on the immediate beneficiaries rather than how the tax cut will recycle through the economy. It's funny how people moan about, for example, loss of jobs in the car indus...

Re: Brexit....or in.

I'm still loving Vince Cable's comment that it's clear that a majority want to cancel Brexit.... from 40% of 37%. Corbyn comes a close second with the claim that the Labour policy has always been clear... we want a general election, or a referendum, or a confirmatory vote.... And as for Alastair Cam...

Re: Brexit....or in.

So the Brexit party take UKIPs votes and most of the Tory vote. Lib Dems and the Greens take Labour's vote. The split in England & Wales (still waiting for the Scottish and NI votes) is about 40% pro remain, 35% hard leave, Labour 14%, Tory 9% (teehee). Turnout pretty low though, at 37%. Also, hilar...

Re: TV shows that are ace

I actually quite liked the seventh series. Huge parts of the 3rd to 6th series were dull as shit and only redeemed by a few sparkling characters. ******SPOILERS******* The entire high sparrow shit was just annoying as hell, Jon's journey north of the wall was mostly boring, Jaime Lannister and Bronn...

Re: General Election

I still can't see a new Tory leader having any more chance of breaking the impasse.

Re: TV shows that are ace

Internet hysteria to one side both season 7 and season 8 have been pretty poor considering seasons 1 to 6. It seem pretty evident that with no books to follow anymore the writers struggled to maintain the level of plot development. I don't have a particular issue with the ending or particular eleme...

Re: Today's random stupidity story...

I don't really think they need an elite spokesperson. They had more than enough publicity, and were certainly visible to those that really can make a difference. I genuinely think they would have been better asking her not to attend, or, to demonstrate just how easy it is to attend remotely. Apparen...

Re: Today's random stupidity story...

So if everyone just plants a lot of trees, it becomes acceptable? If wikipedia is accurate, she lives in the UK:- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emma_Thompson It's not a return trip. She flew from Los Angeles to London, and then London to New York. I don't understand why people want to make excuses; ...

Re: Today's random stupidity story...

Yes but making movies doesn't contribute to their cause. It's all excuses so people don't have to practise what they preach, and is a big part of the problem. As an actress of note she could insist on only taking parts filming in the UK, for example. Yet they expect the rest of the world to stop fly...

Re: Today's random stupidity story...

No. I'm suggesting surely she should compromise and not travel. I'm suggesting she's a hypocrite. She wants other people to stop flying, but isn't prepared to make that compromise herself: because she needs to do for her job. So, is she basically exempting all people from flying who need to do so fo...

Re: Today's random stupidity story...

And Thompson lines herself up for more hypocrisy claims by flying back to New York. It's alright, though, sometimes she needs to fly for her job....

And the thing to do to combat this, is to stop watch PL football, stop watching Champions League football, especially on the telly box.
