I do like how you've proven your own flawed logic in a single post RTT
Serious case of blinkers on the go here. Remember: the Leave campaign don't have to stick to any if the issues they campaigned on..... :dunce:

Re: Brexit....or in.

If half your family wants to go out for the day, and the other half want to stay home, you could suggest standing in the doorway all day so everyone gets a bit of what they want. Or a compromise could be to stay in until lunchtime and then go out? Yes? So you mean after 26 years in the EU we should...

Re: Brexit....or in.

Your argument is as compelling as RTT's that we should leave with no deal because 52% of people voted to leave and therefore must prefer that option to remaining, or leaving in a way that removes all the benefits of leaving (I.e. negotiating trade deals and in some people's flawed minds preventing ...

Re: Brexit....or in.

Surely the essence of compromise is reaching an agreement somewhere between two binary positions? I don't disagree with that at all. What I'm arguing is that you cannot infer what and where the compromise should be from the referendum result at all, because there is simply no information in that re...

Re: Brexit....or in.

What about the 27.79% of the electorate who didn’t bother to/abstained to vote? Should your proposed compromise take their choice into account by the government being a bit dithery and failing to make any meaningful impact? Oh wait... ;) Or the extra 2 million that are old enough to have a say now ...

Re: Brexit....or in.

Um, right. I guess May wasn't the only one who didn't understand compromise :D I understand compromise. However the vote was binary. There isn't any compromise available in a binary decision. The issue was that leaving the EU is not a binary problem and is heavily nuanced, as we've discusse...

Re: Brexit....or in.

If slightly over half of people want one thing and the others want the opposite, you find a compromise that slightly favours the majority. It's obvious common sense and doesn't require any complex interpretation of the referendum or what individual people did or didn't want. Not at all. They could ...

Re: Brexit....or in.

Linky . According to an account of the meeting, the prime minister was told by his EU counterparts in no uncertain terms that the UK’s plan to replace the backstop by allowing Northern Ireland to stick to common EU rules on food and livestock (known as SPS) was not enough to prevent customs checks ...

Re: Brexit....or in.

Perhaps seeking an exit that represents the actual vote - you know, one that was actually very close and implies that retaining close links should be combined with leaving - which doesn't mean having to deal with single market issues on Ireland would be a better approach. Now you're falling foul of...

Re: Brexit....or in.

All it would take is a time limit on the insurance policy. It makes zero sense not to be open one, given there already is a time limit: a month and a half.

And don't just be blaming the Tory party for this either, most of them actually voted for the agreement with the backstop in.

Re: Brexit....or in.

Though there is a flipside; by refusing to move from their red lines, the EU is also ensuring there will be a hard border on the 31st October, in the event that nothing on the UK side changes in that time. Which is another one of their red lines.

Rock. Hard place.
