Lawro 2008/2009

Post by Dan » Fri Aug 22, 2008 1:58 pm

How on earth did we forget this thread last week?

Anyway, Lawro seems to be talking a bit more sense this year :-o
Blackburn v Hull City
Image

I think Blackburn will win this and therefore have six points from two games, which will be a fantastic start for Paul Ince.
I reckon that Blackburn's win at Everton last Saturday was the result of the weekend.
Stories keep surfacing about the future of striker Roque Santa Cruz but Blackburn are looking to strengthen and not sell. A good start will do them no harm in terms of attracting players to the club.
Hull really kept at it last week at the KC Stadium and were rewarded with a victory over Fulham but playing away from home in the Premier League is very different.

Match preview
Verdict: 2-1

More sense? He had a heavily depleted Everton side down to cruise to a 2-0 victory over us last week. He'd gone along with this mysterious idea that because Ince hadn't managed a PL side before, he must be crap.

Ah, but that was his first prediction. He's allowed a practice ;)

Think he's used his practice well and truely up reading by his latest effort!

"West Ham v Blackburn

Paul Ince [Blackburn manager] going back to one of his former clubs... very interesting.

I know they are waiting for players to come back, but West Ham looked a bit short and didn't seem to be able to get in and behind Manchester City last week. Roque Santa Cruz is the best signing Paul Ince will make and Blackburn are playing with a bit of freedom, while West Ham seem to be in limbo. Verdict 2-2"

Aston Villa v Blackburn

Blackburn are in a rut - they are not playing particularly well and being punished for all sorts of mistakes.

Defensively they haven't looked good either which is normally one of their strengths.

Villa, by contrast, seem to be able to pick off teams.

They had an outstanding win at Wigan and they have plenty of competition for places.

Verdict: 2-0
:-?

He's said some puzzling things over the past few years, but what the fuck is he talking about here? We've only lost one of our last 6 games, against Man Utd, when fair enough, we didn't play well. But as for being punished for mistakes, we've let in just 2 goals in the other 5 games. Not what I'd call a sign of bad defending. Apart from being outclassed by two of the big 4, I thought the general consensus was that we'd played well this season but not taken our chances.

:D He's just been out on the piss all weekend and realised he has to hand something in for this - That's cliche central really, and not targetted in any (sensible) way.

I hadn't read the rest:
Middlesbrough should have won at Blackburn, Tuncay should have had a goal and it was a spirited display, especially away from home.
Yes, Tuncay should have had a goal... but Rovers should have had a penalty... and were clearly the side keeping the ball and creating a lot of good chances. :clonk:

Apparently we have been trying to play more football recently and have been struggling away from home. :-?

Portsmouth v Blackburn

Portsmouth at home are tough to beat - Fratton Park is a place that Premier League teams do not like going to because they know Pompey do have a real go at them there.

The thing with Blackburn is that at the moment they do not really know where their next win is going to come from. Confidence for them is at rock bottom even though they have not really been playing that badly.

Verdict: 2-1

Fair enough I suppose, the worrying thing is he only got one result right last week!!!

Lawro's predictions ------------------------------Actual results
Tottenham 2-0 Blackburn -----------------Tottenham 1-0 Blackburn

Lawro got ONE result right, with NO perfect scores.

Yeah, but he accompanied that with some tosh about how we'd struggled away from home, when at the time our record was the 7th or 8th best in the league and matched United's... this week the write up makes sense, so he'll have the score wrong... :sherlock:

I hope, at least... ;)

Portsmouth are tough to beat at home yet have already lost twice there this season, and drawn twice as well....
