Lawrenson 2007/08

Post by Rover the Top » Tue Aug 07, 2007 9:10 am

Premier League preview.
Lawro's verdict: Blackburn have punched above their weight since Mark Hughes took over.

They play good football, are strong defensively, scrap for everything and have plenty of decent players.

Blackburn have been a real success story under Hughes and I think they could be pushing for a Uefa Cup place once again this season.

KEY MAN: RYAN NELSEN
A very under-rated player who holds Blackburn together at the back.

He says we have been punching above out weight, yet still going to be challenging for a UEFA spot :-? Strange man

What's wrong with that? He expects us to continue punching above our weight for another season. I agree with everything he says, for possibly the first time ever. We'll finish higher than clubs who have more resources at their disposal.

The one funny thing about the article is he has something like 7 teams finishing in the one UEFA Cup place...

Actually he has 7 teams in CONTENTION for a UEFA cup place - which is a very different thing.

Weird. His whole article makes sense for once. maybe he finally got a ghost writer in....

If you look right at the bottom of the page it has a note that lawro was talking to Paul Fletcher.

I think Mr Fletcher must have filtered out all the crap and just left in the stuff that makes sense!

Bolton will be OK this season, perhaps pushing on from mid-table but falling short of a Uefa Cup place.
Maybe Lawro isn't such a :wanker: after all

Blackburn v Arsenal
Everyone was trying to write Arsenal off at the start of the season, saying Tottenham will finish above them, but I actually think they're going to push the other three close.

Away from home, it really suits their style of play - almost better than the Emirates.

Blackburn are a good team but, what with their European game on Thursday, I can't see them getting anything on Sunday.

Prediction: 1-2

Everton v Blackburn (1715 BST)

This is a tasty fixture but it always is between these two teams. The match is all about old-fashioned football because there will be a lot of tackles involved.

Everton ran out of gas at Reading last week but I will go for a home win here.

I reckon it may be one of those matches where you might not end up with 22 on the field by the end because of the physical nature of the teams.

Prediction: 2-1
