Rovers v Charlton Sat 19th October 3pm KO

Post by Rover the Moon » Tue Oct 08, 2013 10:09 am

Seems a long while ago when this corresponding fixture last season, on the same date in January, was supposed to be the dawn of a new era (the 3rd attempt) and the team predictably lost.

Well only 9 months on and those false dawns are seemingly behind us and the team, though not quite yet looking like being capable of mounting a serious promotion challenge, is looking far better organised and with a bit more quality and desire about it.

It's been a long while since Rovers fans could, hand on heart, expect their team to win their home games but we now can.

So I'm going for a 2-0 home win

Depends who's in defence, no reason we can't win this one, especially at home, but we'll need a bit of leadership at the back.

Is Hanley banned then?

Think so.

Hopefully Dann will be fit and Kilgallon replacing Hanley should be a solid defence. Lucky for the international break coming now gives Dann that extra time to be fit.
We should be beating Charlton at home last season lost 2-1 but we are a better team now and if we are to try and challenge a play off spot have to be beating the likes of Charlton at home.
4 of next 6 games at home hopefully we can get a run of wins.

"He was gutted because he now misses three games and he might not get back into the team with Matt Kilgallon and Scott Dann forming a partnership."
Sounds like Dann should be fine to play then

I never mentioned Dann because I just assumed two weeks would be sufficient to recover from a slight injury.

Kind of brings things into perspective when we are looking to "Mr Relegation" for salvation ;) but he seems to have put that behind him so far this season and hasn't arrive at a cross two weeks after the striker.....yet :D

We will win this, Charlton are shit.

Generally speaking we are looking much better this season and much more consistent. It shouldn't be ignored that we beat Watford quite comfortably and would have almost certainly got a positive result were it 11 on 11 at Wigan.

3-0 Rovers.

If we're serious about hitting the play-offs then we MUST win this game.

Or not, and win every other game. Actually, we'd probably get straight promotion if we did that, so we can afford to lose a few too.

I agree with Blackbat. Losing this at this stage wouldn't be the end of the world, we're much to early in the season to start labelling matches as must win games.

It should go without saying though that the team needs to approach every match as though they are a must win game...but that's very different to it actually being one.

Also, I dreamt last night that our new loan signing, Clarke, gave away a penalty in the 9th minute for a handball in the area and was sent off. So we should be fine unless we sign someone of that name.

But it doesn't sound so dramatic to say it would benefit us to win this game, but it's not essential to do so...
