So the retained list highlights: Kilgallon, Williamson handed 1 year contracts.

Chris Taylor (surprisingly) and Varney (unsurprisingly unless you're Alan Lying Bastard Noxin, who said we were planning on having Varney as a first choice striker next season), Dunn, Songo'o, Jorge and Robinson are released.

Lenihan, Forrester, Crump, Tanner, Lavelle and King offered new deals.

I am surprised Chris Taylor has not been retained. Is he surplus to requirement. Maybe GB prefers Paul Taylor who we may take on loan again or wants to give one of the younger players a chance. Even so if Rhodes, Gestede depart that would leave us very light weight up front without Chris Taylor and Varney. Interestingly Leon Best has not been mentioned as yet. Its probably cheaper to loan him out again than cancel his contract. He's not exactly worth anything in the market. Maybe we might line up with Best and Brown upfront in the opening game. :(

Maybe Gestede won't be allowed to leave then.... :yeahright:

Wow i'm surprised Taylor hasn't been kept. I suspect that may be by his choosing though

Realistically he was still a way down the order.... seem to remember him previously saying that he would rather be playing more games.

Fair enough. He would have continued to be a great squad option, but I admire the attitude to be wanting to play as much as possible.

Sorry to state the obvious but at no point has Chris Taylor been released - he is just entitled to talk to other clubs. That doesn't mean a new contract offer isn't sat on his coffee table waiting to be signed.

Oh right i hadn't read the article, just assumed he'd gone. I do hope we manage to get him to stay on. Thanks for clearing that up Eth :)

I think I read in the LT today/yesterday that there's no contract been put to him just yet, but that we're intending to do so.

There's an LT article here that mentions it, and gives a bit more detail about what to expect with the squad over summer under the FFP restrictions.
Striker King is currently considering the fresh terms put to him by Rovers and, while midfielder Taylor has yet to be made a formal offer, one should follow.
Luke Varney, like Taylor, is now free to talk to other clubs.
Rovers have not completely closed the door on Varney signing a new deal.
But if the veteran striker was to be offered a contract it would almost certainly have to be on reduced terms after he ruptured his Achilles tendon while playing on loan for Ipswich Town.

Josh King is training with his former team, Valerenga, in a bid to stay fit before Norway's Euro Qualifier in June vs Azerbaijan.

He did an interview while there, in which he said:
I use this time to think [about the future] and we'll see what happens. I've been in Blackburn for 2.5 years. It hasn't been as I wanted. I've played too little. They've promised me more time next year if I stay as their main striker. I need time to think about it because it's an important decision in my career. It's hard to trust them after the treatment I've got. I came back last year and was their best player that pre-season, but I was taken out of the team because some who hadn't played a single minute in pre-season had to play.
Apparently he also said there are offers from Germany, England, Scotland and Austria.

:bye:
