If he was playing his role, then tactically that's the same ;)

Yeah that was my point, I was answering Thor’s post not yours as you can clearly see by the quote I’m about to edit in right now.

You could argue that it's changed the players mentality towards taking it on themselves and who they pass to - the latter somewhat enforced given he ain't on the pitch.

Indeed, which is what I did. Albeit not as coherently. :D

Yeah, I didn't read your post though. Just thought I'd try and argue about it with limited input.

No it isn't! What makes this forum tick is having arguments without having read any of the prior points!

Well you clearly don't know what you're talking about.

I haven't checked, but my gut feeling is we won more games with Armstrong than without him last season.

But was he meaning Tony had fewer tactical options? Does it matter if you win more when he's playing?

I think we've gone through this debate before when Spain failed to beat someone at a World Cup/Euro Championship.

There's no bonus points available for having multiple goalscorers or using the most different formations over the course of a season. If you've hit upon a formula that works for your team, then why would you be looking to change it? The question is are you scoring enough goals, not who's scoring them. The only issue with relying on one player for goals is if you can slot someone else into that role when they're not available. But that was covered above already.

Exactly what Tony has been asking for, goals from everywhere instead of one source. I think it will prove that Arma was limiting Tony tactically.
You're not the first person I've heard saying something similar. I think there is something in the possession based 4-3-3 with Arma as the central striker that was limited but it's difficult to say that rests solely on his shoulders. He scored a lot of goals but equally I'd rather us score more consistently (which we have done this season so far) than Armstrong score 2 hatricks in in 5-0 drubbings then we lose a number of games 1-0. Which is what happened a lot last season.

I think the issue was when a team worked out how to stop our system, with a relatively simple low block, we were pretty stumped. When teams were naive and came onto us leaving spaces to attack we hammered them but there was a lack of a plan B.

Mowbray has talked about being tactically more flexible this season which is welcomed but probably not because Armstrong left. Most of our wins this season we had the minority of possession which is very different from last season. Scoring from set pieces has been a big improvement this season which we were really poor at last season.

It's early in the season but the solidity of Kaminski, Lenihan and Ayala cannot be understated, we've had a few seasons of constant disruption at CB through injuries so hopefully we've have a bit more fortune with things now.

We've got a reasonable run of games to come now so hopefully we can keep racking up the points.
