There were quite a few people arguing against it at the time, based on his poor record at Munich. Me included.

Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz believes he will ultimately have to leave Ewood Park if he is to fulfil his ambition to play Champions League football.

The Paraguay international signed a new deal with Rovers earlier this season after attracting bids from Manchester City but has admitted he is keen to follow his ambitions of playing in the Champions League and challenging for the Barclays Premier League title.

Asked if he could do those things at Blackburn, he told Setanta: "Realistically I don't think so. We have different goals in this team than in other teams."

He added: "If I have the chance and some people can give me the opportunity then I think it is a thing to discuss. There might still be time for a move, if something is going to happen, it is going to happen."

However, he indicated his commitment to Rovers in the short term at least when he added: "I decided to stay here because I believe in the team and I believe in the club, especially when they gave me the chance to get back to football."

Is it overly optimistic of me to say that those quotes could be "forced" out of someone by asking "What do you make of you old manager's current team?" and "If they came in, would you like to play alongside Robinho?"

After all, this "broke" in the mail - The same place the scoop on Carlos being "desperately unhappy and sick of Ince" arose.

i would have thought that too if he hadnt been quoted with wanting to play there, and i dont think he's terrible at english seeing as he translates for carlos... maybe im being pessimistic but i think that means we should just enjoy having him until next july ( id ont think ince would let him leave in january)

Why - a mere two months after signing a new deal, pledging his future to us and saying how happy he is, would Roque suddenly want to leave - I know the situation has changed somewhat at City but that just doesn't make sense.

Papers stirring shit up again!

He's not, you're absolutely right - But i got the impression that the interview wasn't done in English, and therefore relies on biased "news"paper translations - I could be wrong.

It's easy to get someone to say something with certain prompting, and then take the quote out of context.
