With what is floating around in the media today perhaps the worst thing Charlton could have done is get promoted. Patrick Bauer is definitely leaving for bigger money than Charlton can offer. So too it would seem is Lee Bowyer whose wage demands are far more than Charlton are willing to offer plus with Charlton only willing to offer a twelve month contract due to the club being up for sale. Joe Aribo said to be leaving too it is hard to see how Charlton can be competitive in the up coming season.

Am I the only person who thinks replacing mulgrew with Hanley is a sideways step at best?

I feel it's a defensive improvement, but losing that free kick and corner kick hurts.

I see it more as giving us more options and depth, rather than a replacement. A bit of extra competition for the CB places can't be a bad thing.

Hanley is better defensively in my opinion, particularly in the air which was a major weakness for us all of last season and particularly for Mulgrew.

His ability with the ball to play from the back and goals/assists are a great asset but we need to improve defensively.

Bauer signs for Preston
Does this Make Tony Mowbray look a bit red faced? ...kind of a bit after pursuing him for a good long time only for him to sign for a club no bigger or better than Rovers. Does it sum up how attractive Rovers are to players that they would rather play for Preston. Its bad enough having Burnley in the premiership now we have our managers number one long term target going to the locals who were one point better off than us last season. Anyway he will be a load of rubbish won't he?

I don't know about red faced - personally I'd rather know the clubs intentions even if they don't all bear fruit... rather than wait until we sign someone and then claim that they were always the only player we were interested in which always feels a bit disingenuous.... I know there are plenty of people who will fly off the handle at the slightest set back - but those people are silly. The more transparent the better.

Rovers being linked with Aussie midfielder Brandon O'Neill. Lets hope he is more Brett Emerton than Vince Grella.

Saying Jack Rodwell thinks too highly of himself and doesnt want to sign the contract, we should look for a permanent solution that is better than Corry Evans.

Rovers said to be interested in Norwich City's Scottish U23 goalkeeper Jon McCracken. Newcastle and Hiberian said to be interested too.
