Is Charlie Mulgrew gone to Wigan? Been on the decline especially the second half of last season, but to leave him go to a rival with no replacement seems strange

I saw the rumour over Mulgrew and was surprised. I was surprised too Mowbray has not improved the defence. Signing one Man City youngster will not patch up a very leaky defence. Scott Carson has gone to Man City so a nice easy earner for him playing the odd cup game and hope no one gets injured.

I think Mulgrew is past it anyway. Anywhere he starts would have to be a 3 centreback lineup, while still making mistakes.

Cardiff LB Greg Cunningham joins on loan
Happy with this. Williams is now seen as a CB I suppose

I think a few things have lead to Charlie being shown the door. 1st hes getting on and lost his spot at the end of last season. 2nd Naymbe proved in the ACN this past summer he can be a center half. 3rd we had to guarantee games to the City kid in the loan agreement. 4th Charlton was an embarrassment.

I'd like to see us try 3 at the back.

- -----------Naymbe Tossin Lenihan

-----------------------Travis Johnson
Bennet/Chapman. Downing/Williams

--------------------------------Dack/Rothwell

Graham/BB. Gally/Armstrong

All in all I think it's an improvement over last year. Shame about Reed and it would be nice to see Smallwood and Evan's head out.

It would be interesting if we could pull that off. I think we would benefit playing with two strikers. I think benching Graham is a bad idea.

With 5 strikers in the side 2 up front would make it easier to get them playing. Also it moves bennet to a more natural position and makes use of Downings ability. I just dont see Rothwell getting much time, and that's disappointing.

Unless we're playing 2 attacking mids, he isn't much of an asset. I think he has good quality, but until Dack leaves he will sit behind him.

Yeah I saw that, not really sure he'd be needed when we have Dack, Rothwell, Buckley and Davenport to come back. Might be sensible to save the wages for the January window.

Always been a fan of Holtby, very tidy midfielder and on a free worth a shot.

However, would definitely require Smallwood and likely Evans to go in Jan, or Buckley and some of the other young CMs would miss rotational game time (not accounting for loans).

Wouldn't class him as competition for Rothwell/Dack/Downing etc further up the pitch, more of a deep playmaker.

The midfield is pretty crowded deep as is. Johnson and Travis there, plus Evans, Smallwood, Buckley, Davenport on the fringes. If he was on reasonable wages and allowed us to do business in January (if it's necessary), I would like to see what he still has to offer.

Right now, we are leaning toward a 3 centreback lineup and I think finding depth there is more of a priority.
