Sometimes it gets too much to let the lies go unchecked...

Rumours abound that Jordan Rhodes is mulling over a new 5-and-a-half year contract.

Whilst the LT 'helpfully' say the club is keeping schtum about it (perhaps because they missed on the exclusive? lol)

Either way, excellent news if it is true. I strongly believe Jordan is a player we can build a promotion bid around over the next few seasons and its hard to believe he's only 23.

Promising news! Just gotta wait to see it on the official site! :D

It will mist likely have some sort of buy out clause added into it.

You'd think so. He's reportedly still got 3 years left on his current deal, and hasn't scored for 9 games. Looks like it's probably a show of confidence/support, a wage increase, and probably more than a clause or two based on promotions, relegations and future transfer fees.

See Liverpool for how (in)effective those appear to be if you care to fight about it.

Rhodes hasn't scored since Bowyer adopted our lovely 4-4-2 pub league tactics of hump it long in the vague direction of Gestede.

Who's to say his existing contract doesn't contain buyout clauses anyway? Extending it postpones the pressure to cash in on him before he leaves for free. A pay rise will keep him smiling and persuade potential buyers to consider cheaper options. When someone eventually decides to bite the bullet and make a move for him, it's going to cost them a lot of money.

And in those 8 games since he last scored a league goal, we've won 2 and drawn 1 of the 3 home games, and won 1, drawn 2 and lost 2 of the 5 away games. Of course, if the manager was worth his salt, we'd have won all 8 12-0 with Rhodes getting a double hat-trick in each one... ;)

The difference now is that while Rhodes has stopped scoring, others are now getting on the scoresheet instead. Earlier in the season it was him or nothing.

And he's set up 2 for Gestede and 1 for Conway in those games.

I've thought about this, and extending his contract (even with a modest pay rise) may actually help with FFP, oddly enough, because of how transfer fees are accounted for.

I wasn't having a go at Rhodes, I don't blame him for not scoring for a while. We have no midfield, no wingers and use a dated tactical system badly. He gets no service so scores no goals.

His assists for Gestede were great however.

I'd also point out that Conway had dragged his shot wide and got lucky with an own goal.

Pointed out to what end? Doesn't change Rhodes' contribution to the goal, does it?
