Re: Current Events/News
You've seen the figures on transmission places, right? Schools and workplaces are and always have been higher than private residencies, for example. But we can't shut those down (and arguably rightly so: education over the long term has a huge impact on mortality; and in the medium term so does employment and will continue to do so unless there's a huge change in world order).
So, the areas where impact can be made become incredibly small. The rule of 6, and 2 metres and all that other shit are just arbitrary numbers that are deemed reasonable; in the same way the 5 a day was selected out of a plethora of studies because it seemed achievable.

Re: Current Events/News
Out of interest before the result is confirmed, what new underhand tactic has made the difference in this US election?

Re: Current Events/News
Yeah I think that covers a fair hit off.

Looks like a record number of votes for a candidate is just about going to squeak Biden in. Trump already mounting his legal challenges to discredit the election.

There's a good video of Bernie Sanders predicting exactly what Trump was going to do and say with the postal vote. I just hope Biden has more to him beyond not being Trump.

I’ll be very surprised if there isn’t a transition to president Harris around the two year stage of Biden’s presidency.

Re: Current Events/News
I have a strong hunch he'll step down. In two years time he'll be 79 ffs!
It's not a certainty by any means, but I think team Biden have used him as a wooden horse to get the first female POTUS in the chair - neatly sidestepping having to have Harris take on Trump.

And thus justify Trump's claims that the election is a fraud by bypassing the electorate to install a president who they didn't believe would win on their own?Gibbon wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2020 1:39 pmI have a strong hunch he'll step down. In two years time he'll be 79 ffs!![]()

Re: Current Events/News
Yeah, Trump would have a field day with that, but I think at that point Harris would have 2 years to make her case for the next set of elections. Of course the Dems not successfully flipping the Senate will pretty much hamstring what she and Biden can achieve anyway.Rover the Top wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2020 2:15 pmAnd thus justify Trump's claims that the election is a fraud by bypassing the electorate to install a president who they didn't believe would win on their own?Gibbon wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2020 1:39 pmI have a strong hunch he'll step down. I probably spoke too strongly there - it's probably a plan B rather than set in stone, but I think it's extremely likely given Biden's age.

Childish me is going to miss seeing the word Trump in the news.

Re: Current Events/News
Finally called by most new agencies as Biden's. I always find that whole rigmarole a bit weird. Just count up all the votes, even if that takes a bit of time....
