Wanting people to do things because they are a good idea rather flies in the face of libertarian dogma though.

Only if you make the error of assuming "a good idea" is an unquestionable certainty for all. In this specific instance, wearing a mask is just an idea, the benefit if any is open to debate. Assuming both men are symptomless and have no reason to believe they currently carry the virus (otherwise they wouldn't be there), and given the limited scope in what a mask can actually do to prevent transmission of a virus that can be spread in the air and by touch, it seems implausible that it would make the significant difference. If one of them is infected, being sat next to each other for a length of time will make it likely they will pass it on, one way or another. So if anyone really wanted to get their knickers in their twist over the photos and the risk of transmission, they should be asking why the seats are so close together without any screens between them. But given the ratio of masks to no masks you see in public since the law changed, I doubt the "backlash" is borne from genuine concern.

Angry that they did a u turn? Honest question, I can't tell what you're going to be annoyed about these days.

The whole situation, from Paterson taking payments, to whipping MPs to block the suspension, to the "u-turn" which only seems to be half a u-turn to push the issue down the road and let the fuss die down.

I see Paterson has now resigned, the first decent action.

I suspect the resignation came from the realisation that he had been thrown under the bus and Johnson is only really pursuing a vendetta against Stone because she has dared to investigate him. Tin pot dictator.
