Ahhh....I've had this argument many times with mates from "daan saaf". Th other one that causes confusion is the word "dinner". Midday meal or evening meal?

You had your own dinner lady? :o Or did she spit in your food because that's what you treated her like?

Dinner can be at lunchtime aka "lunch". Or at teatime aka "tea". It just means the main meal of the day. Curiously, it's derived from a French word meaning "breakfast", but I guess that's just indicative of how eating habits have changed through history.

My schools dinner lady, a recent high school dropout, did because I hit her in the face with a pile-driving, majestic volley while kicking the football around in the canteen

I'd say it depends how much you're gonna eat rather than at what time.

Dinner implies a nice hearty meal whereas lunch sounds more like a crappy sandwich or pot noodle.
