Leeds

So Bielsa, after bizarrely admitting to have spied on all Leeds' opponents training sessions this season, up to and including the Derby game, was also saying it makes no difference to results, as they have already done SO MUCH research on each team already. (Question: Why spy at all then?)

The majority of Leeds fans seem to think his powerpoint presentation is a masterstroke, even though it lays Leeds process bare and allows other teams to act accordingly to combat his methods. Example: Bielsa says that from analysis of match footage they know what to expect when a Derby player makes certain hand signals prior to set pieces. Presumably now all an opposing team has to do to beat Leeds on set pieces is to mix up their hand signals so that marking players are then expecting completely different plays.

Also Leeds, immediately upon the cessation of spying, comically lose to Stoke. Bielsa says not spying had no effect on the outcome, but Stoke say they drilled in a new formation to surprise him (something a spy at the training ground would surely have seen).

We're 1 of 11 teams in the Championship to jointly write to the EFL asking for full disclosure.

But completely agree, this feels like a lot of fuss about analytics and preparation that will be done at every club to varying degree. Most of what he presented you can easily to subscribe to and access that type of data online. It was also quite a deliberate that he called the press conference at 5pm with Derby playing that evening, just managerial mind games. A lot of this smacks of when Mourinho was first on the scene at Chelsea with the press hanging on his every word. The Sky coverage of this season in the Championship might as well just be called Leeds Utd TV and be done with it.

Their spying also can't be that effective as in the game at Ewood we'd specifically worked on corner routines that they failed to combat twice over
