My wife's just returned to work after maternity leave, and was told she'd be expected to attend one or two meetings a year at another site that would require an overnight stop. At the end of the first week, she was informed the first of these meetings was actually this month, and she'd need to catch a train on a Sunday lunch time so as to be at the site first thing on Monday. We were both unhappy that she was being asked to leave the baby and travel on a day she's not contracted to work, and also needed a plan for childcare on the Monday. I decided the best thing would be for me to take the Monday off and travel down with her.
My wife's gone back to her work with our plan, and they've told her she has to stay in a different hotel and they won't pay
any of her expenses, even though she'd only claim what it would cost for her to go on her own.

I can't see what the problem is or how they can justify that.
