According to our builder and my father-in-law (he voted for Brexit) who supplies the building trade, Brexit has caused all sorts of problems with the supply line; a shortage of HGV drivers, added import red tape and costs - both have contributed to shortages and timber prices almost doubling. They both seem sure that without Brexit the industry could have coped with the disruption from Covid.

I’m sure there’s an element of price gouging going on of course - but without Brexit they’d not really have an excuse.

The worldwide timber price went through the roof 6 months ago, it wasn't a local problem here. However, it is looking more like one now as supply levels are pretty much back to normal elsewhere. Big chunks of our supply, and almost all of certain sorts of our supply comes from the EU of course. Like fucking everything! :D

Important note: We of course have total freedom to choose to buy timber or not now we have escaped the fascist EU mandating that we must buy timber which was a serious issue as we all recall.

Grow your own timber innit. Get out those spades, put on those wellies, roll up those sleeves and plant those seeds in your lovely rolling British gardens, and watch as all the timber you could ever need grows fresh and new right before your eyes. Need a foreign tree? No you don't! Why would you use anyting other than good, strong, fresh British Oak. Huzzah!
