Re: Work Rants
Sadly it's only the latest of a series of IT problems he wants me to "have a look into"... the other week the computer programmer who designs our software couldn't get a print to format properly on a new printer, and my boss expected me to somehow work out a solution...
And there was a time where he was convinced our broadband wouldn't work unless my PC was logged in to the network, based on the fact that the broadband line and router are located in my office...
Although I bring it on myself by managing to fix most things - yesterday we had a printer with an error message about one of the parts not being installed correctly, and I got asked to "have a look into" it. I tinkered about with it for a few minutes, but nothing made a difference. So I gave up, shut the side door, and all of a sudden it worked again.

Ah, the fun of managing people. Just been told by one of my underlings that she didn't want to live anymore.

That's me.
If it was a situation I was personally dealing with in the real world I'd be as caring as anyone else.

Hey at least you just laughed; my response would be to advise suggesting they get on with it then.

It's been a surreal morning. Laughing feels a quite natural response.

Re: Work Rants
Does anyone else work with people who'll send a lengthy print to a shared office printer, then wait for someone else (ie you) to put paper in when it's run out?

Some advise required.
I've been put on a performance review at work mainly because I have bad grammar and people struggle to write sentences that people understand. This is due to being dyslexic, is a manager allowed to do that? To me it seems really unfair.

How important is grammar to your job, and did tell them you were dyslexic when they hired you?

Re: Work Rants
It is slightly important, but all the work I do that is sent out to clients is fully reviewed beforehand. It's only my line manager who has an issue with it. Other managers who I do more work for have no issue with it, they help me with my grammar issues and are not patronising about it.Rover the Top wrote:How important is grammar to your job, and did tell them you were dyslexic when they hired you?
Yep they're away of my dyslexia, escalating to my head of department this afternoon.

Re: Work Rants
Well, if they knew about it before offering the job, I don't think they can have an issue. But don't take my word for it, I'm not an expert. You've a right to be accompanied to any disciplinary meeting, so maybe get one of those other managers to join you if you feel they're more understanding and will support your side of the story.
It might be worth reading through here, just so you've got a better idea of where you stand.
