Old cricket is the best cricket. Less stressful when you know the result.

Greetings All,

Anyone else following this Rovers Legend competition on Facebook? Today we are asked to choose between A. Shearer and Dougie! Bloody cheek! Of course Shearer will win as few on there even saw my namesake play, but when you were a one-club man for over 500 games at the top level for 16 years or more, were born a mile away, have a building named after you, were a club host for years and still live 3 miles away, I'd say that's a legend!

Oldtimers Rule!

Trust me, Duggywerefab!!
Absolutely... double amen to Duggy!

Btw, Duggy, for a latecomer like me, what did I miss by never seeing Derek Fazackerley play? A guy who put on the shirt that many times, surely, a stellar defender?

Faz was an ultra reliable defender. Nothing spectacular on the field,no England caps. But he did play 674 games for Rovers - still a record I believe.

What ever happened to Marvin Emnes? So quick, and as I remember, ManU couldn’t keep up with him in FA Cup match.
One of Coyle’s few good deals.

Like so many other clouds of creative inconsistency, he blew away with the wind. He'll be in his 30s now so I'm guessing he's managing some semi-pro side in the Netherlands.

Greetings Waco!

Good to hear from you and thanks for validating my namesake suggestion. That online legend thing is good to keep people interested so that's nothing but a good thing for the club. As for Derek Faz, he was Mr Rovers at a point when we were in a long long slump. Through several managers and year after year I believe team selection was "Derek and 10 others". As stillgrowling said, very dependable, gave us his all every week, a true professional and a record of games that will probably not be broken. I think all the local clubs like Bolton, Preston, Burnley etc and probably many others in the lower leagues had similar men who they could point to as their Mr Dependable. That was a lot more common in footy then but it still exists in the lower leagues I suspect. Some players know when they have a good place in life and didn't want to risk losing it for a may-be shot at glory at a higher level. They saw many of their mates who came back with their tails between their legs after failing.

I used to play with a bloke who spent 20 years at St Johnstone in Scotland - can you imagine? (but to us at our level, even with no knees or lungs he was still a God! - well until half time anyway). Stay healthy all!

Duggy,
Good comments on Faz... a guy that the fans knew was passionate about the game, loved the shirt, gave 100%, etc.
Him being a local, even better (how does that work? Preston lad, is he even considered a local by Blackburn folk, lol!)

If the club has that guy now, who would he be? I love Dack, & Armstrong (to a lesser degree than Dack), but I believe both are gone when a bigger, or PL club come calling. I’m not sure that player exists anymore in football- a Mark Noble, Steven Gerrard, Ryan Giggs, etc.

Growing up an ‘American tackleball’ fan, for my Dallas Cowboys, it was Bob Lilly... from Throckmorton, Texas...played college ball at Texas Christian... then all 14 years as a pro for Dallas Cowboys (I still love the guy).

Just wondering out loud today, guys...it’s tough going this long with no sports!

My exhortation is the same as Duggy, stay healthy & be safe, all!

Horrible news that Tony Parkes has been diagnosed with Alzheimers. Best wishes to him and his family.
Tony is currently just ahead in the poll for the final of the Rovers Legend Cup on Twitter.
