Re: Sack race
Yup, like Fergie, Mourinho could have got better results given more time?

Re: Sack race
I've been saying as much for years. I'm surprised at Man Utd for becoming short sighted like the majority of clubs. However, in Mourinho's case there's a pattern to how he operates, he starts well then falls out with the players and makes his position untenable in interviews. It's easier to stick with someone if they're not being a complete arse all the time.mrblackbat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 4:26 pmWhich if the case goes to show that patience in a manager is required.

Re: Sack race
Isn't that the opposite of a sacking?

Bruce takes over Sheff Wed after Luhukay was sacked before Christmas. They've had a real upturn in form over the festive period too.

Re: Sack race
Yeah, I thought we had some comical defending against Leeds and Sheffield United then I watched the highlights and saw the Millwall goals

Re: Sack race
Rowett sacked at Stoke, that really is any of the remaining good will towards him as seemingly a promising young manager down the drain. He hasn't been great since the good work he did at Birmingham.
Re: Sack race
It's pretty hard to judge. As we should know as well as any team, it's not an easy job working with a recently relegated team from the PL.

I like Rowett. I’m surprised at this.
Re: Sack race
He's been replaced by Nathan Jones from Luton.

Re: Sack race
I am kind of surprised at this appointment. Yesterday Stoke were rumoured to be after ex Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic but he is unavailable which was something to do with this compensation agreement with Fulham. Nathan Jones gained promotion with Luton last season from League two and has carried on the success in league one. You can argue he has earned a chance of managing at a higher level but its a mighty big jump from League One to trying to bring Premier league football back to Stoke City. He wont get much time either as i would expect the expectation to be challenging for a play off place this season. I hate to make comparisons but Paul Hurst did a great job at Shrewsbury last season and moved on to Ipswich last summer. That ended in disaster for him. One wishes Nathan Jones all the best but you cant help thinking Stoke would have been better sticking with Gary Rowett and Nathan Jones seeing out the season at Luton.
Re: Sack race
Yeah I was going to post something similar and draw comparisons to Hurst. His record at Luton is exceptional but yeah dealing with the expectation at Stoke and some much bigger name players on big money with a lot more ego. He is far from destined to fail but definitely a lot of challenges stepping up.
