Re: England Squad
Problem with the England Squad (other than the obvious) is they've gone for balance over a plan B.
players like Milner who can play anywhere might offer you better cover, but you aren't actually expecting to play them. Someone who might actually have an impact when called upon like Lennon would be a much better bet.

Re: England Squad
Hardly a mountain of goals there is there. Only really Oxtail-Chamberpot who is a game changer there - and hardly one who is certain to deliver.theadore wrote:Forwards: Wayne Rooney (Man United), Danny Welbeck (Man United), Andy Carroll (Liverpool), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham)
Re: England Squad
Wondering how the following would compare:
Foster
Richards, Jageilka, Ferdinand, Gibbs
Lennon, Scholes, Carrick, Johnson
Crouch, Sturridge
Pretty well I think.

Re: England Squad
12 from 27 starts and 12 sub appearances from Welbeck. 35 from 41 starts and 2 sub appearances for Rooney. 17 from 21 starts and 17 sub appearances for Defoe. They're all good figures. Carroll is the questionable choice. Although it was a surprise to me that he's netted 9 times this season. I only remember him scoring once against us?Ethiaa wrote: Hardly a mountain of goals there is there.
The defence looks good apart from I wouldn't have had Tewwy. Midfield is pretty uninspiring, though.

Re: England Squad
I'd be happy with that if he'd taken Johnson instead of the over-rated Downing. Glad he's left Rio out but shame he's included Terry... hopefully he's just for back-up!!
Shocked he's left Richards out

Re: England Squad
Sorry, maybe I didn't make myself clear. I was talking about International football. No England strikers currently strike fear into the hearts of the opposition unfortunately. They aren't appalling but neither are you thinking that scoring isn't going to be the problem.Rover the Top wrote:12 from 27 starts and 12 sub appearances from Welbeck. 35 from 41 starts and 2 sub appearances for Rooney. 17 from 21 starts and 17 sub appearances for Defoe. Re: England Squad
with the baggage that comes with Terry these days, I can't see him being in the squad if he isn't starting.Ollie Board wrote:I'd be happy with that if he'd taken Johnson instead of the over-rated Downing. Glad he's left Rio out but shame he's included Terry... hopefully he's just for back-up!!

Re: England Squad
I think the problem is still with the midfield, they don't create opportunities for the strikers. If strikers can score goals against PL defences, they should be able to against international defences. Often they're coming up against the same players. But then how often have England set up in the last 10 years to play to the strengths of Rooney or Defoe or Bent or Owen? Heskey kept getting picked because of what he could do at the halfway line rather than the opposition's penalty area. Bloody Italian-minded managers...

Re: England Squad
How on earth has Johnson got in ahead of Richards?
Both Barry and Milner? Wow well erm that's great
Mr no goals and assists this season Downing in the team along with injured all season Gerrard too
When will a manager pick a team on merit rather than his fucking name

Where's Carrick and why's nobody talking about him? Was Scholes approached?
Nice to see Oxlain-Chamberlain in there. I think him and Theo provide some sort of a plan B to the boring strategy we'll probably employ.
