Indeed. The last thing any self respecting football fan should be rejoicing over is the financial difficulties of a local club who were another founder member. Very poor show.

It's debt that's not going to be called in though, so they're not in any bother other than the FFP rules.

Exactly. Bolton will only be in financial trouble if Eddie Davies decides he can't or doesn't want them to increase the debt owed to him to cover their excessive spending. Like us, they were always going to suffer heavy losses this time. The only difference is the clueless journalists aren't able to claim it's down to foreign owners not knowing what they're doing. In fact, it's the people writing the articles who don't understand what's happening. Multi-millionaires buy football clubs to spend their money, not make more.

And no doubt the same people who criticise clubs for accruing debts to their owners also think Vincent Tan is wrong to be angry about his manager and head of recruitment spending £15m over the budget he gave them. When that is a problem that could threaten the future of the club if he's not able or willing to cover it.

Phil Gartside among nine summonsed to answer perjury or fraud allegations

Phil Gartside, the Bolton Wanderers chairman, has been summonsed to appear in front of magistrates to answer allegations of perjury and fraud, along with the club’s former manager Sammy Lee, the ex-player Gavin McCann and some of the more influential agents in the business, in what could be, if it proceeds, one of the biggest court cases of its kind in the sport.

Jerome Anderson also summoned on fraud allegations as well as Bolton the club. Fun times.
