Question for fans.
When Lenihan regains fitness, do we drop Downing?
Or do we play five across the back?
Or do we drop Williams or Nyambe?
Or do we ask Charlie to play midfield instead of Whittingham or Evans?
Answers on a postcard..................
We keep the defence that's been helping us win games.

Looks like we won't be scoring any goals directly from corners this season then

Not sure this is a good thing. He is currently injured, even when fit is downing the pecking order in terms of actually playing and now we've got his wages back on the books it cause further issue with our finances in the transfer market.

Only appeared 14 times for Latics. It appears he chose to return, & Tony made no promises. With that understanding, a healthy Mulgrew will give us depth.
I guess the biggest positive (experience) is also a negative... he’s 33. So, he joins Bennett, DannyG, Johnson & Downing as 30-something’s. Oft injured, and definitely short-timers.

It's a good thing, it's an experienced head in the dressing room to provide a bit of advice for the young patched-up defence. Add to that the fact that Evans is about to get a metal plate in his head and won't be back anytime soon, Charlie can easily play the defensive midfield role if needed. I don't expect him to be playing regularly, or to slot straight into defence, but if his set pieces are still what they were then he's useful to have around.

I guess I'm of the opinion that given his relatively high wages within the squad he needs to be a lot more than useful to have around and a bit part player. I'm ignoring what he has done in the past but on balance I think it would have been better for us if he'd remained at Wigan.
Also if his returning comes at the expense of us affording additional wages for a loan or even worse a transfers then that would be frustrating.

The latest from Mowbray on the official site:
“Charlie Mulgrew scored 30 goals across two seasons from centre half, And yet the club has to move on, the team has to evolve.”
It sounds like Mulgrew won’t be back, even though he wasn’t on the list.
